I am fascinated by all areas of science and philosophy, and I enjoy helping others to extend their knowledge and understanding.
I recently completed a PhD in Linguistics (sociolinguistics) looking at the relationship between epistemology and language in academia. I am now an Associate Lecturer in Linguistics.
-Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
-Three years' experience as a classroom teacher of Science to KS3/4 (age 11-16) and Physics teacher to KS5 (age 17-18).
-Undergraduate lecturing and tutoring in Linguistics (formal linguistics and sociolinguistics).
-10 years' experience as a private tutor.
I make extensive use of past exam questions: the best way to do well in exams is to practise doing exams! This also allows realistic monitoring of performance as tutoring continues. I normally email exam questions for students to attempt before the tutoring session. Students should also have time to explore their own interests in the subject by asking questions of their own. This is an important part of reflective learning and will help build and maintain enthusiasm.
I am happy to teach up to 3 students in a single session. Multiple bookings have a reduced fee per student due to the moderate reduction in individual attention.
