Private Maths Tutor in Streatham

I am currently a Software Developer living in South-West London. Before this I taught Mathematics for three years in inner London schools. I have always been very strong mathematically, but my experience gave me strong pedagogic skills and an acute awareness of why students struggle and how they can overcome their fear of Mathematics.

I make strong, professional relationships with tutees (and families) that create positive learning environments allowing students to fail without fear and learn from their mistakes.

Tutoring Experience

I have three years' experience teaching Mathematics in south-west London. I taught from Functional Skills Level 1 all the way through to Further Maths A Level. I have been tutoring privately throughout this time. My most recent tutee achieved a Level 7 in his GCSE exam; one grade above his predicted.

GCSE:
During my time at William Morris Sixth Form, I was part of a department that well exceeded the national average for Maths GCSE passes obtained. We took many students on who had failed at Year 11 - so I am well aware of the pitfalls many students make.

A Level:
The step up to A Level is a tricky one. Especially the introduction of Mechanics and Statistics. My background in Physics gave me a thorough understanding of both and three years' teaching has shown me where most students struggle.

Tutoring Approach

My philosophy to tutoring is one that allows the student to ask any question they feel. The biggest obstacle to learning in schools is a fear of one's inadequacy. In my sessions there are no questions too stupid; no subject too easy. I aim to allow students to locate what the issue is which in turn allows them to make progress.

I also provide students with a sense of structure. I have good resources that I can use dynamically to suit the lesson, the misconception and most importantly the tutee
