John

Enthusiastic Maths teacher that strives to fill students with the confidence needed to succeed. My aim is to make Maths accessible for all students by reducing mathematical concepts to appropriate levels of understanding suited to the learner. A wealth of experience working with both Primary and Secondary students.

Tutoring Experience

During 11 years working with children aged from 3-18 years I have developed a wealth of experience that I bring to tutoring. Teaching children from all walks of life, those who have learning difficulties / additional needs and children classed as 'gifted' has given me chance to enrich my knowledge of education and learning techniques.

Tutoring Approach

A sympathetic approach and understanding of common problems students face allows me to address where an individual is struggling and ensure they progress to meet their full learning potential. I always listen carefully to my students to ensure I fully grasp their understanding of concepts so that I can best address problems and enable them to make progress. Appreciating that each student is different whilst acknowledging I can learn from my students as I teach them means we can develop their best learning method.
Throughout my career as a Maths tutor I have received glowing reports and feedback from parents whose children I have helped prepare for GCSE'S, SAT's, transition from primary to secondary or just a boost in confidence.
Learners often lose confidence through fear of giving a wrong answer then find it nigh on impossible to make progress. Confidence is a key part in learning and I endeavour (always with great success) to fill students with the confidence they need too succeed. I achieve this through a relaxed, non judgemental learning environment that promotes 'wrong answers are a crucial part of learning'.
