John

Online Chemistry Teacher

Hi. My name is John and I am 59 years old scientist, married with two children (16&19). I am a qualified teacher with over thirty five years of experience in Chemistry. I have a BSc, MSc and PhD in Chemistry, am a Chartered Scientist, Chartered Chemist and Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Tutoring Experience

Hi. I’m John (Dr Removed), a scientist of over 35 years standing and qualified science teacher with an infectious passion for chemistry. I offer professional, high quality private on-line tuition in AQA and OCR A-Level Chemistry (KS5). I have a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry, MSc with distinction in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation, and a PhD in Chemistry and have over thirty five years’ experience in analytical science. Most recently, having qualified as a Secondary School teacher (QTS), I was teaching Chemistry at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls before becoming a full-time tutor. I have Qualified Teacher Status with PGCE (University of Manchester) and am also a Chartered Scientist (CSci), Chartered Chemist (CChem) and a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC). I have a current Enhanced DBS certificate, which is available for inspection as required.

Throughout my time in academia (University of Manchester) as a Research Scientist, I published over 30 peer-reviewed papers, presented at national and international conferences and co-edited a text book on advanced proteomics (Analysis of protein post-translational modifications by mass spectrometry). As a former STEM ambassador and mentor, I have worked with young people of secondary school age (Year 7 to 6th Form), which, combined with me having a 16-year-old son and 19-year-old daughter of my own, gives me an empathy and understanding of this age-group of students.

Tutoring Approach

My tuition style, whilst being highly professional, is very friendly and interactive - I encourage students to ask any questions throughout and check on their progress before moving on. I use whiteboard (Zoom) with graphics pad, visualiser for textbooks and past papers and custom-made slides and notes. I have conducted over 1400 tuition lessons and have successful helped over 30 students to achieve their academic goals. Tuition with me does not end when the lesson ends and I encourage students to get in touch between lessons with any problems they encounter. Each student is treated as an individual with bespoke lesson plans designed to maximise their specific needs.
