As a maths teacher at a successful independent school in the West Midlands, with several years’ experience as a tutor, I am fully up to date with the changes in maths curriculum at GCSE. I have recently taken part in inspections judged to be “Excellent” by Independent Schools Inspectorate – the highest grade awarded. Qualification: BSC (Hons) in Mathematics and Mathematical Education, PGCE with merit in Maths Education, CIMA Chartered Institution Management Accountants.

Tutoring Experience:
I have a professional, friendly, nurturing approach and have been tutoring for several years. During my time tutoring I have worked with students from numerous successful schools including: John Taylor, Denstone College, Repton and Foremark School. I have taught KS3 all the way through to GCSE with Edexcel, Aqa and have a proven track record of raising attainment and building confidence in maths. I regularly see GCSE students achieving, on average, 1 – 2 grades above their predicted grades.

Tutoring Approach

Tutoring Approach:
I have a patient and calm approach, breaking down and simplifying complex questions, adopting a can-do attitude to students learning. I adapt my teaching style according to the student’s needs, building confidence and competence in mathematics. I seek to identify common misconceptions and ensure students have a solid foundation in maths on which to build. My approach incorporates a programme to improve retention and aid memory recall, especially in test and exam situations. It has been my experience that the pupils I teach start to believe in their own ability, and go on to have the confidence to achieve the grades they are seeking. In fact, they frequently end up being among the higher achievers within their year groups.

I am now taking advance books for next year’s cohort starting in August. In addition to this, I am offering maths booster classes to get ahead start for September.
