Hello, I'm Joanna and I'd love to hear from you about tutoring if you like my profile.
I currently work full-time as a study skills tutor and student mentor, mainly in Higher Education for Open University, London Metropolitan and SOAS University of London students. I was previously an Academic Educational Adviser for the Open University in which I provided in depth information, advice and guidance for students entering and continuing Higher Education.
Over the past 10 years, I have worked in many one to one teaching and support roles which has given me a great deal of experience working with adult learners, children and with learners with disabilities. I previously taught Spanish beginners adult education classes. My support roles have taken place in various subject areas; initially in ESOL classes and then in literacy and numeracy to some extent in art and digital music among others.
My approach is always student-centred. So I'd take time to get to know how you like to learn and what you want to achieve. From my working roles and personal life, I have a good understanding of how to help students balance studying with personal responsibilities and overcome any barriers to learning. My calm, patient and empathetic approach has frequently been commented on by both students and colleagues.
