This is how 2 referees rated Jessica:
I am a reliable private tutor, who is Manchester/ Cheshire based. I have been tutoring for over two years now and have a grown a large clientele. I specialize in a range of subjects, 11+, Biology, History, English and Maths GCSE. I also help students who are just starting Secondary school and would like to get ahead of the curriculum in the main subjects such as the sciences, languages, maths and English.
I myself went to Stockport Grammar School and have helped many students from different backgrounds to pass through.Currently, I work full time at the BBC and spend my weekend's tutoring.
My teaching is unique to my individual students. I like to understand how my students best benefit from my way of teaching. That is why my one to one sessions are so popular, as I take the time out to understand my students and how they absorb information.
Students see me not only as a tutor but as someone who has gone through this process of education and can give them advice and support. I have found from my own experience a teacher can make or break a subject.
When I was studying for my 11+ I applied for Cheadle Hulme Grammer, Manchester High School for Girls, Stockport Grammar School, Hillcrest Grammer, St Bedes and Withington and I was able to pass all of them. So i feel that I have experience in studying for 11+.
My GCSE's consisted of an A* in English literature and English language.
A - Maths
A* - Biology
B - Chemistry
A* - History
A - Physics
A* - Classical Civilization
A - Art
A - Classical Civilization

I have been tutoring now for over three years, and all my students have passed their 11+ exams for Stockport Grammar School, Cheadle Hulme Grammar School, Manchester High School for girls and boys and Withington Grammar. Additionally, I have helped students who were working at a C grade at GCSE to an A*.

I like to analyse the student's ability's before I start working with them. Finding their strengthens and weaknesses. Working with more visual aids I find is very important, so power points and colored notes are a plus.
I like to do annual ability checks to make sure that the student is learning and I also like to keep the parents in the loop. I feel that with young students to keep them engaged in the subject we need to different activity and also to make sure the student does not feel like he/she is not progressing.
Everyone learns in different ways. Which is why I am very patient and understanding with my students. I work my students hard and make the lessons worthwhile but I always make sure that they enjoy the lesson and don't even realize that the knowledge is sinking in. The best thing for a teacher is to help the students find a passion for learning.
