Hi I'm Jane,
I'm passionate about maths and especially dyscalculia (those that struggle with numeracy).
Since I was 8 years old I wanted to be a special needs maths teacher, I am now an approved qualified teacher of dyscalculia (with the BDA) as well as a qualified maths teacher. I'm dyslexic so understand what it's like when learning is challenging. I didn't get my diagnosis until after completing my Masters degree but now I am embracing my neurodiversity. I like coming at things from different angles and supporting students to overcome their fears of maths.
I have taught GCSE maths/statistics and functional skills in secondary schools and in adult education.
I have qualified as a dyscalculia specialist teacher from Edge Hill University (2021) to further enhance my teaching skills to support those with maths difficulties. This involves using manipulatives, developing short term and long term memory skills and structured teaching.
I believe in teaching to a students strengths to support their weakness. I prefer working with and supporting those students who find maths a challenge but need good grades or to increase confidence. It is important to reduce learner anxiety especially with 1:1 tutoring.
My ethos is:
Confident, happy learners = successful learners, who achieve academically and in life.
Please note you will need to pay the finders fee but the first session when arranged will be free and with no obligation to continue, if you are in anyway unsure of our compatibility. Many thanks Jane
