This is how 2 referees rated Jan:
I am married and I have lived in Broadstairs since 2006.
I have been a lecturer in Mathematics, Physics and Mechanical Engineering in South Africa for 14 years, before emigrating to the UK in 1997. I have been a supply teacher in London and offered operational training in London Underground from 2003 till 2014.
I am retired since March 2014 and dedicate my qualifications, experience and knowledge to tutoring.
My current Enhanced DBS Certificate has been provided to the agency and it has been approved.
I am available for tutoring throughout the year on weekdays and evenings (Monday to Friday), mainly in Broadstairs and surrounding areas, which include Birchington, Ramsgate and Margate. The distance I need to travel, will be reflected in the price per hour.
I am sure you will appreciate that I can only tutor a limited number of students in a day. There is normally a surge in applications after the first mock examinations, which of course reduces my availability.
I encourage parents to observe me while tutoring, whenever they wish to. This ensures that they can be confident in and are pleased with my tutoring ability and approach. It also serves as an opportunity to see the progress of the tutee.
I give parents regularly a progress report on the seriousness, dedication and diligence of the tutee.
My teaching career started in 1984, when I taught Mathematics and Science at High School level in South Africa.
I qualified as lecturer in 1987 and taught Mathematics, Physics and Mechanical Engineering at Technical College level until 1997, before I emigrated to the UK.
I am the author of 2 Mathematics textbooks, which I used to lecture from in the Technical College.
The Mathematics that I taught ranged from and included basic arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, matrices, vectors, differential and integral calculus, as well as advanced differential equations.
I also tutored up to 30 school students per week (after hours).
At the moment I tutor the following subjects:
Primary School, Secondary School, Entrance Exam, KS2, KS3,
GCSE (Foundation, Higher & Advanced Levels),
A-Level (C1, C2, C3, C4, D1, D2, S1, M1. M2. M3, FP1, FP2),
International Baccalaureate, QTS, American University Entrance Exam (SAT).
SCIENCE & PHYSICS:
Primary School, Secondary School, International Baccalaureate Physics.
I tutor on a one-to-one basis, preferably in the tutees' homes, where they feel more comfortable and learn easier in familiar surroundings.
I tutor according to the present official syllabus and concentrate on both the work they find difficult in school at the moment and the work they were not taught properly in the past.
I concentrate on doing examples of old and new work, continually revising past question papers. I am also available for and offer to mark any past examination papers the tutees complete as part of their revision. I mark the paper and provide detailed feedback. I served as National Technical College Examiner for Mathematics N4, for the Department of Education in South Africa.
I give the tutees continually homework and discuss it later with them.
I believe in and concentrate on laying a firm and solid foundation in the principles of Mathematics and Physics.
I give the tutees access to my Google drive to download all my notes as well as past question papers, which I use in tutoring.
I also tutor on SKYPE.
