I am a full-time Principal Teacher and have marked both Higher and National 5 exams for the SQA. I have a 100% pass rate in the 6 years I have been tutoring. I have tutored over 40 students privately and dozens more through my work as a partner in a well-regarded tutoring franchise.
I have my own transport and provide tutoring within West Lothian and the Falkirk area without adding a surcharge for mileage. For details of additional charges, please ask for an estimate.
I welcome groups, where I tutor a maximum of three at a discounted rate of £25 per student for 90 minutes. I cannot offer tuition from my home as my young child would probably prove a distraction!
I teach full-time in a well-regarded secondary school. The current courses, and changing approaches to assessment, means having on-the-ground experience is vital. I am well-versed in the latest developments and changes in the Scottish curriculum as well as contemporary approaches to teaching; including upcoming changes in 2018/19 to the National qualifications.
As a result of being an SQA marker, I am familiar with all Scottish set texts and the most common poems, plays, novels and films. However, I always welcome opportunities to learn new texts.
I am very experienced in working with learners that have additional support needs and can easily adapt my approaches to suit their needs. I frequently receive requests for assistance with English language tests. Unfortunately, I do not offer tuition for these as I simply do not have enough experience with IELTS (and such like) to provide a quality of service I would be happy with.
My approach depends entirely upon the individual and their level of study. Adaptability to the tutee's needs is paramount. In this sense I do not simply wish to offer every tutee the same work, regardless of their strengths and weaknesses. Areas that we will focus on are to be decided together and in light of school work. Once I have a good understanding of the tutee's current working level and their focus at school I can draw up a prospective learning plan; catering for and addressing the individual's needs specifically.
I am approachable and enthusiastic about what I do. I am confident that I can motivate a willing individual to achieve and realise their potential in my subject. With that said, I expect a high level of commitment from the tutee. Work will be set and assessed on a weekly basis, if necessary and agreed.
I am contactable between sessions via e-mail and will mark work and provide feedback.
I have a strong professional attitude towards tuition; and a return on your investment is incredibly important. I am confident that I can work with any student to ensure they are given the best possible chance of meeting their potential and getting the grade.

Kirstie and I are both delighted with her result of a B in Higher English.
Your friendly but efficient and helpful manner put her at immediate ease and enabled her, with your help to focus on and improve her techniques for answering exam questions.
Will and already have recommended you to others.
