Jamie

Maths, Chemistry and Biology tutor, who has taught 100's of students all over Scotland/UK over the past 7 years. I am the Director/Owner of a large tutoring agency operating throughout Scotland specialising in premium private tuition in Science and Maths.

I graduated from The University of Edinburgh with a Masters Degree in Chemistry (MChem), completing a year in industry working as a process development chemist accounting for my 4th year. I have also completed a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Chemical Engineering, covering a wide range of applied Chemistry and Mathematics. I also hold a Masters (MSc) qualification in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. I am member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) and also a Registered Scientist (RSci).

I have also completed my PhD in Environmental Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) in collaboration with the prestigious research institute, James Hutton, which is one of the most recognised institutes in the world for carrying out environmental research. I also teach on several modules within the Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry courses at GCU, including physical, analytical and organic chemistry.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring maths, chemistry and biology/human biology for 7 years. From my experience of private tutoring, every student is different and requires a different approach of teaching style to ensure that they are getting the most out of each session. I offer 1 to 1 sessions for 60 and 90 minutes, and also group sessions (up to 3). I cover a range of teaching techniques in my sessions such as; explaining specific sections of the course work, past paper questions and how to approach exam questions. Using these techniques ensures that the students I teach receive excellent marks in their exam.

I have an excellent track record in teaching the following subjects and levels (which all follow the Curriculum for Excellence - Scottish Qualifications Authority). I teach all of the subjects/levels below, however, I am not limited to this and have taught many younger students entering into high school (year 1/2), and also older students studying at university/college.

SQA National 4 - Mathematics, Chemistry & Biology
SQA National 5 -Mathematics, Applications of Mathematics, Chemistry & Biology
SQA Higher - Mathematics, Chemistry & Biology
SQA Advanced Higher/ University Level - Chemistry

Tutoring Approach

I believe planning well in advance is the key to success. Delivering large amounts of work in a short period of time can have a negative impact on the individuals learning experience. Planning and breaking down the course into manageable portions in realistic timescales will ensure that the material being taught can be consolidated successfully. Each tutoring session will have a goal before moving onto the next to prevent information overload, which again can have a negative impact on learning. My tutoring sessions will be fun, but will also be very structured and focused on the end result which is to improve the individual's knowledge in the subject and to pass their exams.
