Master’s degree from the University of Oxford and 8 years’ experience tutoring pupils in maths and the sciences. Inspiring the highest academic excellence, and growing within every student a passion for learning no matter their background.
Having been sponsored through university by a prominent Engineering Consultancy in 2011 I started full-time as a Building Physics Engineer, studying the science behind architecture. My work involves the understanding and use of Computational Fluid Dynamics and has influenced designs for World Cup Stadia, Olympic sites, as well as large industrial projects and more recently a prominent role in modelling Thames Tideway (Currently the largest construction project in Europe). As part of a small team of specialists I have provided optimised solutions for some of the biggest projects in the world and have had this work validated by external peer review.
Whilst this work is intellectually challenging and rewarding, teaching and inspiring pupils adds a whole other exciting dimension.
Through my work as a private tutor I have helped students exceed their own and their parents' high expectations allowing them to continue studying at the top level.
TESTIMONIALS
Rating: 5/5
"Fantastic tutor.
Our son doesn't easily engage with tutors but has enjoyed his lessons with James thouroughly.
James has been punctual, committed and taken time to understand our son's weaknesses, James has truly been amazing.
We would highly recommend him." S. T.
"James is a very good teacher and particularly connects well with teenagers.
He has an enormous amount of patience and an excellent knowledge of his subjects.
He was always on time and often stayed longer if he was in the middle of explaining things. He not only tutored but he also gave support on revision techniques and managing time. James is very approachable, was well liked and has an enthusiasm for his subjects which rubs off. I would strongly recommend James as a tutor." - T. D.
"James was always punctual to sessions and had a way of explaining topics and ideas in a clear and understandable manner. He also ensured to read through the course material to fully understand it before teaching it. With his guidance I achieved the grades in Physics to secure my university place.” - G. I.
"Thank you so much for all your help, James, you’ve been an exceptional influence on B’s performance. […] We want you to make sure you’re available for S too in a years time” - B. N.
“I’ll be sure to spread your name far and wide. And of course we’ll be asking for your assistance when L is starting GCSEs” - A. M.
“He proved to be an excellent tutor for G who achieved his grade to study mechanical engineering at his chosen university. I have no hesitation in recommending him in any tutoring post.” - J. S.
I create an honest, individual and exciting rapport with students, consistently reinvigorating perception of the subject at hand leaving both myself and the pupil looking forward to the next session. Forging a hard-working, fun and open atmosphere brings out the best results in my pupils as the peer-pressured classroom is replaced with an air of warm solidarity, support and good humour.
