Private Maths Tuition in Otley

I am a maths tutor based in Otley offering GCSE and A Level maths tuition.

I achieved A* in both maths and further maths A Level - 94% in maths, 91% in further maths. I competed in the British Maths Olympiad Round 1 in 2017.

I offer recent first hand experience of studying for and taking modern exams, and of using a wide variety of resources available to do so.

Please note that for A Level Further Maths there is a wide range of optional modules and I am not familiar with every module - as such, my hourly rate may be higher than advertised for certain modules. My normal rate for A Level Further Maths is £45/hr. I am also available to tutor STEP, TMUA, and MAT university entrance exams for £50/hr.

Tutoring Experience

I began tutoring professionally around two years ago. Since then I have worked with students from Year 7 to Year 13.

I am experienced with all exam boards.

Tutoring Approach

I often find I have a very different way of approaching topics than mainstream teachers. There are many areas where I like to teach around and beyond the syllabus - time permitting. This can complement and enhance a student's understanding of key areas.

Ultimately, passing maths exams comes down to working through past paper and example questions. Modern exams, in addition to testing a student's mathematical ability, test their ability to infer information from complex written scenarios. When I studied for my exams, this was a major factor that affected my peers, and I think that I have a good understanding of where students can struggle.

Teaching is a very individual thing, no one approach will work for everyone. I am happy to discuss this further before arranging an introductory session.
