Having lived in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and London, I find myself being able to speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin pretty much interchangeably. I also understand the challenge of learning Cantonese and Mandarin, especially the speaking aspect. I believe that practicing speaking is key to being able to have a conversation in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin).
I received a Merit in MSc in International Public Policy at UCL. Previously, I received a 2:1 for BA (Jt Hons) Politics and Economics at The University of Nottingham.
I have experience in tutoring and mentoring both primary and secondary school students, both on a one-to-one and a group basis. Primarily, I focus on tutoring up to Year 6 students for grade improvements, SATs, 7+ and 11+ in both English and Maths. I also tutor Maths at GCSE level and Chinese at all levels.
My method is to try to draw the student into the topic, at least a little bit, in order for them to engage with the material as I feel this makes it easier for them to understand and remember the concept which is important, especially in maths. Also, I try to ensure that they have a good foundation in the topic and aim to give an overview in order for the student to not feel like they have gaps in their learning. I aim to also ensure that the student feels comfortable with me as the tutoring will be much more effective if the student can freely tell me which areas he/she are struggling in.
For Entrance Exams, I will draw on a wide range of materials and using past papers from top grammar/independent schools as the key materials. Regardless of which school the student wishes to attend, I will use different past papers as they draw on different skills. I will then teach the foundations of any topics that students have found to struggle on in the past papers.
