Iphigeneia

My name is Iphigeneia and I am a recent Masters graduate of Classics from the University of Cambridge. I’m passionate about helping my students build an in-depth understanding of languages and their culture and use visual cues to engage students in classical culture and to create an interactive and informative learning experience.

Tutoring Experience

I am a CELTA-qualified English teacher, trained in using online platforms to create an excellent learning experience. I have been giving private tutor sessions for ages 11-62 in the subjects of General English, IELTS preparation and Classical languages since 2021. I believe creative collaboration is crucial to a fulfilling learning experience and during university I attended multiple reading groups where I presented my own research and constructively discussed my ideas and those of others.

Tutoring Approach

For English learning, I aim to increase my students' confidence and fluency in speaking in every lesson, and use a variety of interactive methods to teach grammar and vocabulary. In each lesson I focus on one of the four main skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening.
For classical languages, I use the aid of stories and myths to intertwine language with culture. Language is taught through a blend of grammar exercises and free translation, to engage students with the aesthetic aspects of Greek and Latin syntax as early as possible. I tailor to each student’s needs and interests; part of the session is be dedicated to discussion of the concepts or the historical background of the passage to bring context and life to the text.
