I am a chemistry graduate from Southampton University and work within financial advisory having qualified as a chartered accountant. I am extremely passionate about maths and science, and very keen to help others get to grips with concepts I have previously worked hard to fully understand. I have been helping students achieve high grades across maths & chemistry for the past 12 years and know what is required to succeed for GCSE and A level. A large part of succeeding is having confidence in your own knowledge and I believe I can help my tutees with that. I strongly believe that everyone is capable of doing well academically if given the right tools and confidence. I am a very friendly, outgoing and approachable person.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring GCSE maths and AS/A level Chemistry (from various different syllabuses) for the past 12 years and have a proven track record of successful helping some of my A-level students raise their grades up from a D to a final grade of an A. I have taught a large number of students in one-to-one lessons but I am also happy tutoring small groups (group discounts are available) as well as online tuition.

In the past 2 years I have also tutored MBA and knowledge (ACA) level accountancy having qualified as a chartered accountant.

Tutoring Approach

I believe having a firm grasp of the syllabus and knowing exactly what is required is very important to do well. Half the battle is knowing precisely what areas could be examined so my teaching approach is very exam oriented with a focus on hitting key marking points. I think it is essential to enjoy the subject, and I try and share my love for learning and the subject to ultimately make previously feared topics the ones that my students end up hoping for in the exam. Encouraging the student to do independent work in between lessons is also important to ensure that our sessions are as productive as possible.

I focus sessions on a split between syllabus crunching and practicing past paper questions, and use the Feynman Learning Technique of asking my students to pretend they are explaining a certain topic to a peer of theirs to help identify any gaps there might be in their understanding.
