I have over 11 years teaching experience of Sociology at GCSE and A-level. I have worked both in school sixth forms and further education colleges, having been Head of Subject in my last role. I now teach in a large FE college in a very successful Sociology Department where the majority of students achieve high grades. I am also a current AQA examiner. My students have described my passion for the subject as infectious and this translates into excellent student results.
I am a subject specialist as I studied Sociology both as an A-level (A grade) and at university (2:1).
I have over eleven years experience of teaching A level Sociology to both Year 12 and 13. Teaching the AQA specification, the units I cover are Education, Families and Households, Research Methods, Crime and Deviance and Beliefs in Society. I am also an examiner so well versed with what students are expected to produce under exam conditions.
I currently teach in a large FE college in a very experienced and specialist Sociology department teaching A-Level (AQA) Sociology. I also have tutored 1:1 privately for the last five years with great success - with the last cohort (2021) achieving A*/A/A and a B in their final results.
My approach is firstly identifying areas of weakness. I primarily make use of powerpoints, handouts and set homework essay and small mark questions. I am happy to adapt to whatever method suits a student and am often told that I am quite laid back and can make the material easily accessible and understandable. I tend to prefer more discussion based 1:1's and recommend wider reading and documentaries to watch.
