This is how 3 referees rated Helen:
I am a 29 year old fully qualified English teacher. I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2009 with a BA(Hons) English Literature degree (2:1) and completed my PGDipED English teacher training course in 2012 and my Masters in Teaching Studies at University of Birmingham in 2014. I am currently teaching both English Language and English Literature full time at a high school in Birmingham and am a qualified GCSE examiner for AQA. I have recently joined forces with a fellow English teacher to launch a tuition centre in Harborne offering small group tuition for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students (11-16 years old).
I have a wide range of experience working with children and young people including;
Summer 2010: I worked as an English Teacher at a summer camp in Spain, teaching English to a class of 12-13 year olds.
Jan 2011 - July 2011: I worked for a teaching agency as a Cover Supervisor, covering lessons for absent teachers in a number of schools around Birmingham.
July 2011: I worked as an Activity Instructor for Super Camps at King Edwards School, Edgbaston where I was responsible for a group of seven 6-7 year olds, supervising and co-ordinating their arts and crafts and sporting activities.
Sept 2011-June 2012: I completed my Post Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of Birmingham which involved lectures and seminars at the University and two full time teaching placements.
Sept 2012 - present date: I am currently working full time as an English teacher at a secondary school in Birmingham and so have the perfect insight into the English curriculum to be able to successfully tutor any pupils across the 11-16 age range.
I have marked GCSE English Literature exam papers for AQA since Summer 2013.
Our newly launched tuition centre offers specialised support for students aged 11-16 years including targeted English Language and English Literature GCSE preparation.
So what sets us apart from other tuition centres?
With us, your child is guaranteed to be taught only by tutors in possession of master's degrees in education who currently teach English in local high schools and are official GCSE examiners for well known exam boards. This means there are no tutors better qualified to provide accurate and advanced subject knowledge, apply the most up to date teaching and learning strategies from educational research and provide detailed insight into exam requirements to facilitate rapid and sustained progress.
Following an initial assessment, students will study highly personalised work with checklists provided to highlight areas for development and areas of success. They will benefit from working in small groups providing an interactive and supportive learning environment and will be provided with varied and stimulating course materials with access to GCSE sample papers and advice from trained GCSE examiners.
You will benefit from competitive rates, half termly progress reports and the secure knowledge that your child is being tutored by highly qualified educational professionals in possession of full, clear CRB checks.
Our English tuition workshops take place on Wednesdays 5-6pm (term time only) only a ten minute walk from Harborne High Street.
