I am originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne and moved to Liverpool in 1998. Prior to the completion of my first degree I worked as a lead advisor for Norwich Union Direct. This involved working to support the continuous development of 10 to 15 people through planned coaching linked to training need analysis, personal development plans and business performance management.
I obtained my BSc in Chemistry with Pharmacology ( 2.i Hons) in 2006, my Masters of Research in Physics/Biology in 2007 and my PhD in Organic Chemistry in 2015. All of these qualifications were obtained at The University of Liverpool.
During the course of my PhD I have published research in a peer reviewed journal.
My non academic interests include painting, cooking, D.I.Y. and listening to Johnny Cash.
Postgraduate Demonstrator:- Regular supervision of laboratory practical sessions and tutorial workshops for undergraduates. This involves helping the students to understand and complete work relating to undergraduate course content and the marking of this work. In addition to this I have supervised a number of undergraduate Masters students and a summer placement graduate chemist undertaking work on behalf of Astra Zeneca.
I believe that learning is a different experience for all. Resultantly, I attempt to tailor the tutoring to the individuals skill set.
I mostly adhere to a guided discovery approach. Combined with this I incorporate a practice style. This involves the private practice of a memory/reproduction task with feedback from the tutor. I have found that this can produce the best results.
