I am a senior examiner for Edexcel, and have helped Hodder Publishing to edit several of their new Politics textbooks for the new 2017 specification. I examine and specialise in the following topics for Edexcel Politics:
Political Ideologies - Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism and Feminism
US Politics (Comparative Theory)
I also teach and examine for Edexcel GCSE History, specialising in the following topics:
Crime and Punishment
Medicine Through Time
I have been Head of Politics at an Outstanding school in Richmond for 8 years, and have taken on private tutees for Politics and History for the last 9 years of my teaching career. I have also worked with a publisher on writing the new textbooks for the 2017 Politics AS and Politics A-Level specification change.
As well as tutoring, I also offer 'exam masterclass' sessions during weekends/school holidays. These are 2-4 hour intensive sessions (that can be a one-off or more regular) that go over A* exam technique, example A* essays and key hints and tips for the exam.
As well as being Head of Politics, I am Head of Student Development at Wellbeing and lead on Teaching and Learning and CPD.
Prior to working in Education, and graduating from UCL, I worked in the House of Lords and for several political campaigns. This experience in frontline politics has given me a first-hand insight into the workings of British Politics.
I have also worked for many years in citizen engagement, particularly among young people. I have worked closely with several organisations to encourage participation among young people, particularly in politics and civic duties.
As a senior examiner, my aim is to transfer key exam skills and 'exam hacks' to students, including memorisation techniques and 'need-to-know' information. I will provide students with a comprehesive list of possible exam questions, as well as e-copies of all relevant textbooks if they need. In addition, I will provide 'A* grade* example answers for each questions we work through together.
I truly believe that, in order for a student to achieve their full potential in any subject, a positive atmosphere must be established in which they can flourish and explore the things that really interest them; this is the beauty of Politics and Citizenship; young people can form opinions on and debate current issues, and take action.
As with all my teaching, I strive to build relationships with my tutees; to understand their needs and to accommodate appropriately.
