Hayley

Hello, I'm Hayley and I’m a fully qualified and experienced Secondary English and Learning Support teacher (BA Eng / PGCE). I find tutoring extremely rewarding and am friendly, patient and encouraging in my approach. I always strive to get the very best results for my students, and love to see them reach their goals and potential.

In my opinion good dialogue with students and parents is essential, and one-to-one support is the quickest route to improvement. My most pleasing feedback has been that I help to boost my students' confidence in English- bringing back enjoyment and a love for the subject again. I am patient, creative and supportive, and will help you learn at your own pace.

I believe everyone deserves a great education and should enjoy learning, but sometimes we all need a little extra help to overcome hurdles and achieve our best. I will work flexibly around you for as many or few sessions as you like, and will devise a plan of lessons, with benchmarks for success, to help you reach your goals.

I currently offer online tuition only, to work around my young family.

Tutoring Experience

After finishing my degree at the University of Reading I worked in the non-for-profit, media and private industries, before focusing on a career in education.

Since completing my PGCE Secondary English qualification I have worked in several top performing secondary schools in Essex. Most recently I spent five years teaching in one of Essex's top private schools as an English and Learning Support Teacher (KS3-5/IB). I had a proven track record of helping students attain academic excellence and my extra curricular responsibilities included managing and coaching public speaking, and fostering creative writing.

I have a working knowledge of a range of exam boards and am proficient with the demands of the 1-9 English GCSE. Since starting a family five years ago, I decided to solely work as a private teacher and copywriter/editor to better suit my family commitments.

My additional experiences include running confidence building and career/interview skills workshops in various London schools on behalf of two private companies. I am also happy to coach sessions in these areas on a one-to-one basis.

Tutoring Approach

In addition to regular bookings, I can offer single and short block bookings to master those tricky topics or for coursework and essay support.

Specialising in both English Literature/Language and study skills, I offer tailored and supportive tuition for KS 3, GCSE, A Level and further and higher education students. Furthermore, I can offer assistance with: coursework/assignment planning, general proofreading, preparing and coaching for interviews (University/College and vocational). I can also offer help with UCAS applications and public speaking coaching.

Whether you need help revising punctuation or understanding the themes of a Shakespeare play, I will devise carefully tailored lessons to meet your requirements. I have tutored a range of age groups and abilities in the past- from those struggling to access concepts in their first year at secondary school, to Oxbridge candidates looking to boost their analytical skills. I am also able to troubleshoot where students may need to improve their study skills in order to see better results and engagement overall. I use a holistic approach for consistently great results. Our first lesson will be diagnostic: a chance to discuss your hopes for tuition and to establish a tuition plan with benchmarks for success. I look forward to hearing from you.
