I have over 15 years experience of 1-to-1 tuition to students aged between 5 and 26. I specialise in Mathematics (all ages), Secondary School entrance examinations and Professional Accountancy Qualifications.
I have helped students of varying educational and cultural backgrounds attain A/A*s in their secondary school examinations (GCSE & A-Level), younger children pass their 11+ & 13+ examinations to get into the top Grammar and Private Schools in the Richmond-Upon-Thames Borough and older students pass Professional Accountancy Qualification examinations.
What I enjoy most is building relationships with parents and students over time and seeing them grow and develop through primary, secondary school and university. In addition to tutoring I also enjoy providing ad-hoc, free of charge advice to students and parents regarding GCSE, A-Level and University choices and UCAS & job applications.
Outside of tutoring, I'm a chartered account (ACA-ICAEW) and have loved working in the corporate world since I graduated from The University of Manchester with a BSc Degree in Mathematics with Financial Mathematics in 2008.
My tutoring seed was first sown back when I was 16 years old. I successfully tutored two children aged between 14 and 15 in GCSE Mathematics; they both achieved A*s. In the same year, I tutored two 10/11 year olds for their 11+ entrance exams. Both passed all of their 11+ exams for Tiffin School, Kingston Grammar School and Hampton Grammar School.
Ever since, my experience has developed through time and working with students of varying ages at varying levels of their academic career.
My tutoring approach does not simply entail visiting for an hour or two and teaching a set syllabus of academia.
Every student is different. My first priority is to build confidence and to actually enjoy tutoring the student and vice versa! My approach with each student varies largely because a) students are at differing education levels, b) confidence levels vary immensely and c) learning style is different (eg some pick things up easily, some more slowly, some prefer certain subjects to others etc).
I strongly believe that a tutor's role, in addition to teaching the academic content, is to bridge the gap between the student and parents/guardians who are concerned for their childrens' futures. I spend as much time as it takes to liaise with parents, guardians and students outside of tutoring hours to ensure the student is getting as much out of our 1-to-1 tutoring sessions as possible.
