Information About Hannah - Chipping Campden tutor - (85 reviews)
This is how 2 referees rated Hannah:
Hannah has worked as a full-time registered private tutor since 2009, and has taught over 250 students, both from the UK and abroad.
She graduated with a BSc(Hons) Biology from the University of St Andrews, where she was awarded a First in her research project on the neuromuscular disorder, Parkinson’s disease.
Upon moving to France from 2010 until 2012 Hannah continued to build her tuition business by teaching UK students online. As well as this, Hannah also taught in the French private sector, including teaching at the prestigious Epitech (École pour l'informatique et les nouvelles technologies, also called European Institute of Technology). Now back in the UK Hannah offers in-person tuition as well as online lessons.
A-LEVEL BIOLOGY & GEOGRAPHY
During her time teaching at Tuition Matters our principal tutor, Hannah, has authored detailed notes on each topic on the A-Level course. As well as this she has an extensive collection of exam questions and mark schemes, grouped together by topic. Each registered student will be given log in details and will have access to all these documents online.
To supplement written notes, students often watch short videos that can help explain difficult topics more easily. Students can also work through a selection of relevant exam questions which can be done together during the lesson, or which the student can do at home in their own time. These are then marked together using the official exam mark schemes so that the student knows exactly what examiners are looking for in a high-level answer.
Help with Personal Statements or references for university UCAS applications are also available.
Using their unique log in details, students have online access to documents containing detailed notes and diagrams on a specific topic which they then discuss together via Skype during the lesson. Skype is a way of doing free video calls via the internet. Online lessons are more efficient than conventional home lessons, with no travel expenses or time wasted through travel. Lessons also have a greater degree of flexibility enabling many students to continue with tuition whilst abroad during school holidays or away at boarding school.
Hannah's office has recently installed fibre optic broadband, which ensures that the internet connection is very fast and that Skype calls are excellent quality.
Please give 24 hours notice for any cancellations by phone, otherwise there will be a charge of 50% to cover costs; during the exam season this is charged at 100%.
Missed lessons are charged at full price.
Late payments mean the lesson will be forfeited and the student will be charged as per a missed lesson.
Please email any work to be marked at least 24 hours before the tutoring session to ensure there is enough time to read it through thoroughly.
Lesson length is flexible and can be adapted to suit each student.
Group lessons are available by request.
Revision plans tailored to each student are available by request.
Biology: AQA, OCR, Edexcel
Geography: AQA, OCR, Edexcel
Due to it being late in the school year I do not have any more availability for second year A-Level students.
However, I am able to take on first year / AS students.

|Tutees Providing Positive Feedback:|
Hanna is clearly passionate about what she does.
We live overseas so her ability to offer tuition over Skype was a tremendous help. I would unreservedly recommend Hannah as a tutor.
I have been very impressed by the weekly report that Hannah emails to me. She has very quickly determined my daughter's weaknesses in the subject area and is working hard with her to address these. I would thoroughly recommend Hannah as a tutor.
One thing I particularly struggled with was exam technique, Hannah has not only helped me consolidate my answers, but has taught me how to break down questions, and interpret what is being asked. With this in hand, I now feel prepared, and confident in sitting the exams.
I really cannot thank Hannah enough for all the help she has given me, I could not have asked for a better tutor, I just wish I had come across her sooner!
I cannot imagine trying to sit my exams without Hannah's help, and I simply cannot recommend her highly enough.
I would strongly recommend her.
Hannah provided a ‘notes’ document and a ‘questions’ document prior to the lesson, which gave me a chance to go through it briefly beforehand and also allowed me to use it afterwards (eg to test myself and look back through the notes). The notes included diagrams and bullet points – which were simple and easy to absorb. Overall the notes and detail given were great, but just occasionally I did not feel that they went into enough detail, as we sometimes delved further in my college classes. But as soon as this was mentioned to Hannah she always added it to the notes for me.
Hannah’s teaching style is clearly adaptable and she can tailor the lesson to my needs, ensuring I am always comfortable with the lessons topic. I would recommend both online tutoring and Hannah.
Hannah is very organised, lectures started always on time , and weekly feedback by e-mail for the parents helped us keep track of the progress. The online sessions were fun, energetic and very efficient. They were exam practise focussed, which is just what Abigail needed. She coached Abi over this period to learn what questions to expect, what kind of details examiners would be looking for to achieve good grades, and also, importantly, to build up a sense of timing to ensure students are able to complete the exam within the allocated time. We now have a daughter who enjoys geography and is looking forward to her next year.
Thus overall the experience was first class! Be sure to book early, because she appears very popular and gets fully booked quickly.
**Telephone Number Removed** Our son has just completed his A 2's and has been assisted since retaking some of his As papers .Hannah has worked with him in Geography and Human Biology and the help and support has been brilliant. He saw a move from grade U to C in AS Human Biology and D- a high grade B in Geography AS. Hannah has been really supportive and has really helped fine tune Will's learning. he has reallt enjoyed the lessons and his confidence and understanding has really shown at college. He has entered his A levels without a feeling of anxiety as he has felt on top of the subjects rather than trying to cram it all in at the end. I would recommend this method of teaching to anyone - its focussed , well organised and Hannah has a good understanding of the course content and exam structure and has a sensitive and supportive teaching style - I would suggest that for resits you obtain copies of your exam papers and share them with tutors to help them understand where the focus of teaching is needed. we have not had the results for A levels yet but for us the positive laerning experience that Will has had merits comment ( whatever the results- which hopefully will be positive) .
She is very professional, organised and approachable. She will always make sure you understand the topic before you move on to the next one. As well as that, Hannah provides you with her own notes which makes it easier to revise.
I'm very pleased and thanfull for this chance of having her as a tutor.
I recommend Hannah as an A level biology tutor.
Sam has been having tuition with Hannah for about 18 months moving from AS to A level biology. I wasn't entirely sure how online tutoring would work out, but as Sam seemed to click with Hannah and be making good progress with her decided to give it ago - what a good decision!! Sam actually said it was easier to focus being online and seemed to get through a great deal during the hour.
After every lesson Hannah sends emails saying what work has been covered and how Sam has done, what areas he needs to concentrate on etc… I would totally recommend Hannah for AS and A level biology tutoring.
Hannah explained topics in a clear way and answered my daughter's questions so that she could understand. Hannah really boosted my daughter's confidence and helped her learn how to answer A'level questions. Hannah was always on time for the session and gave me excellent feedback on the work that had been covered.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Hannah as a tutor.
A good choice of tutor.
The first tutors web site is very easy to use and is invaluable in helping to choose the right tutor to work with your child.
I initially contacted Hannah regarding my Biology dissertation as this was her area of expertise, but later I also required some guidance on my Psychology dissertation. By which point I was extemely pleased with Hannah's tutoring and was confident that she would be able to tutor me for my psychology dissertation too, so I arranged for some more sessions.
Hannah helped me create a very clear structure and essay plans for every step of the way for my dissertations. I gained a comprehensive yet simplified perspective of what I was required to do, how to go about doing this and a lot of supportive material. As well as the confidence to tackle this intimidating work. Hannah also aided me with time management, which is essential for university deadlines, and support outside the tutoring sessions, with any questions I had and editing drafts of my work.
With the lack of support and guidance from my university, I wouldn't have been able to get my dissertations to the high standard I wanted without Hannah's help.
Would highly recommend!!
