I am a patient, friendly and enthusiastic tutor. I come from an academic background (Molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics) rather than teaching and as such, have a thorough and extensive knowledge of the subjects I tutor in. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm with others and I'm also good at explaining some of the more complex elements of biology. I am also registered as a STEM ambassador and visit local schools to share my passion for Biology and Science.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy cooking, swimming, playing tennis, walking and watching Hull City!
NOTE: I have very limited availability left now - weekday evenings are fully booked until mid-June. There are some daytime slots left for A-level students.
I have tutored >100 students, mainly in biology at A-level/Highers, but also separate sciences and general science at GCSE level. Recent successes include an AS student moving from grade E up to a A and an A2 student moving up from an unclassified (U) grade up to a B. I am more than happy to take on students of all abilities. I have also taught at University level (2nd year biochemistry) and have mentored undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have some experience tutoring students with mild specific learning difficulties (ADHD, Asperger's).
My approach varies depending on the student as all have different needs and learning styles. For GCSE/A-level tuition, I usually concentrate on exam practice, with in-depth topic study for the more problematic subjects. I also use multimedia aids to help students visualise biological/chemical processes where appropriate and I have created powerpoint files covering all A-level and GCSE Biology topics.
