This is how 2 referees rated Gill:
I have taught Psychology and Sociology at GCSE and A level in schools and colleges for many years. I am now semi-retired and currently work long distance for Oxford Opening Learning as well as tutoring locally. My principle subject is Psychology and I am very familiar with the AQA and GCSE A level syllabi. I can tutor Sociology if required.
I live on the Isle of Man and have interests in my subjects (obviously); I enjoy hiking and trekking; music (piano and choral singing); dance - ballroom and latin (I am a professional teacher), and gardening. I do all sorts of voluntary work.
From the second week in July (2018) I shall have three vacancies on a Wednesday evening with starting times between (4pm-7pm) for home Psychology tuition as my current students will have taken their exams. These lessons take place at Port Erin. The cost per hourly session is £32 and includes the one hour tuition, any research, photocopying and marking undertaken for the student during the week. If you require tuition at a different location, the cost is £40 to include travel time & expenses. I can possibly offer tuition at other times so let me know your availability and I'll see what I can do.
SPECIAL OFFER: AUGUST 2018 BOOKINGS ONLY - If you book and pay for 4 lessons in advance (online or home tuition) the cost will be £100 only. Lessons must be taken during August and dates and times agreed in advance. If you would like tuition at your own home, depending on distance, the cost will be £120.00. Any lessons taken or booked after this time will be subject to my usual fees. During August, I may be available during the day as well as evenings.
I am an accomplished and successful Psychology teacher, and pride myself in enabling students to get the grades they deserve. When I graduated as a mature student in 1994, I came top of the year in our Psychology department (Human Sciences) at Loughborough University and received a bursary for outstanding achievement. For many years I taught in secondary schools mostly with full responsibility for the delivery of Psychology at A level. I also taught Sociology equally successfully when requested to do so at a College. I achieve results which generally match or exceed the student's ability and I have extensive knowledge of the requirements of AQA, having been an Examiner and Moderator for them over the years. I recently wrote the new A level Psychology material for Oxford Open Learning, so am fully familiar with the requirements of the new course. I work very hard for my students, and as I work from home, I am able to give more time to my students, which is often not the case with other tutors.
I expect students to want to work to the best of their ability, and therefore do the reading and research associated with any activities or homework I set. I can offer real value to any student by having an extensive knowledge and I try to bring in a different approach and other alternative ways of thinking about issues. If you get stuck, we break down the information together into manageable chunks, putting psychology into practice!
As a private student, you will have your ideas about what you want from the tuition and also what grade you want to achieve. We will use these thoughts as our starting point, and I will follow your lead unless I think you are going off track - in which case I will point you and keep you going in the right direction.
I am well known for sending links of interesting articles or facts for you to include in essay answers, so that you can surprise the examiner by having up to date information.
