I am a qualified teacher who has practised what I preach. I have achieved top grades and could help you do the same. In my youth, top grades in maths and science A Levels were followed by a 1st from Imperial College in computing. Just recently, I gained a PGCE as a maths teacher at Masters level, and passed current A Level maths exams with top grades once more.
I now specialise in A Level Maths, where tutees appreciate my mathematical understanding, and 11+ where parents appreciate my complementary literacy and reasoning skills.
I also love chess, and can teach the internationally recognised Steps Method to get children started on a firm foundation. With my help, my young son recently won his Lower School Chess Prize.
I also love poetry.
I can provide verifiable evidence of further qualifications than the four verified by First Tutors:
Diplomas in Maths (2001), Statistics (2002) and Economics (2003)
Member of Mensa (No. 173581) and the ISPE (No. 1251) (2001)
Additional 2 A Grade A Levels (for total of 6) : Pure Maths, Statistics (2003)
6 A Grade AS Levels: Economics, Mechanics, Pure Maths, Statistics (2003), Maths, Further Maths (2014)
At the start of the new school year I have time to help new students; evenings and weekends.
I do not offer 1 hour lessons. I charge £40 for 1.5 hours or £50 for 2 hours at my home. I generally charge £10 extra for visiting you at your home if the travel is feasible. I do not offer a completely free trial session, but I do offer a half-price trial session which could be as short as 1 hour. I am flexible and happy to tailor my hours accordingly as exam and test dates approach.
I hope to hear from you, and
thank you for your interest.
I have been tutoring A Level students of Edexcel, OCR, OCR MEI and AQA for three years now, as well as students of IB Maths. I have tutored A Level students from schools including Westminster, Eltham College and the Kent Grammar Schools. I have tutored younger students from schools including City of London and Bromley High. I have also been tutoring my own young son, currently at Dulwich Prep, from an early age.
For A-Level, I am happy working closely to the specification of the examiners, using material they have approved. At the start of the year I would generally support my tutees in their schoolwork, rather than giving an alternative scheme of work. As exams approach I would generally help prepare my tutees by working through past questions with them. My tutees are the bosses, however, and they tell me what they want to cover each session.
For 11+, I provide book-based teaching rather than assessment. I select books in agreement with parents, and then impart my knowledge and understanding to children as I review their homework. However, I do not agree with the modern emphasis on continual assessment. I do not believe that an object gets heavier the more times you weigh it.
