Why chose me?

I have real experience working in boys, girls and mixed schools both private and state. Unlike other University Graduate tutors, I have actually been a teacher and understand the various demands placed on students - working with all abilities of students. Through my experience I can understand if they are on target to achieve a particular grade. This year, In addition to the usual A and grade 9 students, I had a student achieve an A* and get into Cambridge as well as a student who improved from a grade 4 to grade 8 GCSE in six months.

• I have a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE).

• I have taught Chemistry at an Independent boys' school.

• Previously, I taught at an independent girls' school for three years.

• Fully up to date DBS certificate.

I offer intensive revision courses for the all main exam boards to help with GCSE, IB and A Level.

Tutoring experience:

• KS2, KS3, 11+, 13+, 16+ Entrance Examinations, Scholarship Papers – 100% pass rate with some of my students recently getting offers from St Paul’s, City of London and other grammar schools. Including Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

• Extensive experience with GCSE/IGCSE & A Level – helping my students achieve their desired grades and exceeding expectations.

• Oxbridge applications and mock interviews with successful clients.

• American University applications – Chemistry SAT examinations

In addition, I have the ability to work with top achieving students to challenge them using extension questions. I can help with Oxbridge applications for Chemistry using mock interviews.

I am well organised and able to manage time effectively. My hobbies and interest includes Shotokan Karate which I have done for the past 20 years, achieving a 3rd Dan Black Belt. Tutoring Approach

I like to understand my clients' needs, their particular strengths and areas for improvement. I teach the topic in the best possible way to match their learning needs. The key is for them to understand the topic by linking to something which they previously now. This creates a connection in their brain to help them remember and understand the concept long-term. I believe that a clear understanding of theory should be followed up with a range of examination style questions to test if the student has truly understood the work.

It is vital for students to truly get excited about the subject so by using real life examples, they can remember concepts more easily. I believe in going through problems with the students first and showing a clear example, then allowing them to practise until they understand and can do the problems on their own. Furthermore I sometimes guide them in the right direction without actually telling the answer so the child is able to figure it out for themselves. I would follow the syllabus provided and teach every topic in suitable order. Then I had work through past papers and leave them papers and homework on each topic to practise. I would try to create a spark and make the pupils interested in the subject so that they can pursue their further studies with more enthusiasm. Finally, I always listen to the client and exactly what they require so I can adapt my approach.
