Personal Description:

Hi and welcome to my profile page. I hope the following information is useful to you, and assists you in your decision-making.
I have been married to my wife, Julie, for over 30 years. We have 2 sons; our one son lectures in Law and business at university, whilst completing his PHd. Our other son works within a significant government department advising on policy.

Prior to becoming a teacher I worked within the electronics and computing industries, and have maintained contacts whenever possible. I believe this helps me to remain aware of the practical applications of all my subjects.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a teacher for over 20 years, focussing on teaching of maths and computer science through to A Level (and above). I am recognised as an Outstanding teacher, who achieves the best from his students.

Throughout my time as a teacher, I have consistently achieved the best for my students, with most achieving their target grade or higher. I cannot promise a grade, but will work with each student to ensure that they have every opportunity to achieve their best.

My students are from various backgrounds and abilities, allowing me to have worked with some amazing individuals from level 0 through to Higher Tier GCSE and above.

Tutoring Approach:

I truly enjoy mathematics and the logic of the subject; and one of my greatest satisfactions as a tutor is when a student begins to attain a level of enjoyment in the subject, growing in confidence; seeing each area as a problem to solve, not something to avoid or worry about.

I enjoy a relaxed and calm atmosphere, where learning is fun and problems are to be solved and not a burden. Nothing is impossible and the more difficult the challenge the greater the reward. I use Virtual Learning Environments, revision guides and past papers along with my years of experience.

I prefer to see learning as a whole-life experience and so try to ensure that what is being taught has a clear real-world purpose.
