Hi, I'm Gabe. I work as a Civil Engineer and I am a 2022 Master of Engineering Graduate from the University of Sheffield who achieved First Class Honours in Civil Engineering. I studied Maths, Economics and Physics at A-Level, where I achieved A*AA respectively, including 100% SCORES in 3 of the 6 A-Level Maths exams. I have also completed maths modules every year at university, which has further strengthened and improved my knowledge in the subject. I have studied lots of the relevant maths material very recently, therefore, I still possess the relevant knowledge and attributes required to achieve top grades.

Tutoring Experience

I have 100+ hours tutoring experience and I am currently delivering in person maths tutoring to GCSE and A-Level students. I spend several hours preparing prior to the lessons to ensure that my students gain the maximum possible benefit from my tutoring. At University, I helped first and second year civil engineering students during tutorial sessions, where I assisted them in solving both mathematical and engineering problems. I assisted teaching GCSE maths students at my school whilst I was studying my A-Levels due to my enjoyment for the subject. Additionally, I held many ‘unofficial’ revision sessions with friends at 6th form who were struggling with past exam papers. My passion and enjoyment for both maths and teaching allows me to deliver high quality lessons to my students.

Tutoring Approach

Achieving top grades is largely due to effectively using the skills and tricks available to solve mathematical problems. One of my main priorities will be to assist students to think in a ‘mathematical way’, so that they can approach exam questions and use their knowledge to answer the question in a range of different ways, rather than relying upon remembering a particular method to answer questions. I will transfer this knowledge to students through a range of techniques, depending on their level of understanding of a particular topic. I will provide simple explanations of topics and how to solve problems, following this up with worked examples and practice questions for students to complete. I will also spend every session addressing exam questions to ensure that students are fully prepared and confident before exams begin.
