Home Tuition for English and French in Hindhead

I am a Modern Languages with Honours graduate of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and have spent the whole of my career in the teaching of English and a variety of foreign modern languages, which include French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. I have also taught Latin. I now concentrate fully on tuition, though still help out in local private schools when requested. I have lived in the same area for over 30 years, so am well known in the local educational establishments. I am happy to teach in person or online with Skype or Zoom. Lessons can be individual or in small groups.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught in schools for 27 years, the last 9 of which were as Deputy Head of a Preparatory School. I have also been a freelance tutor as well as full-time teacher, and am extremely experienced in teaching a wide variety of students as well as subjects. I have full up-to-date DBS documentation.

Tutoring Approach

I have no single approach. Just as every student, whether adult or child, is individual, so is my approach to best serving that student's needs. During the first session I generally make an overall assessment of strengths and weaknesses in the subject(s) to be tutored, then discuss my proposed strategy/course with the student and/or parents. I also reassure prospective clients that there is no commitment or obligation to continue beyond the first session unless they are totally satisfied with the initial session.
