Hello, my name is Ewan and I am a barrister, and an accredited mediator. I completed my LLB (Hons) at the University of York before going on to complete both the LLM (Distinction) and the Bar Course (Distinction) at the University of Northumbria. With a wealth of knowledge and experience across multiple subjects, I'm passionate about nurturing talent and providing you with the tools that you need to succeed in your area of interest.
I have experience in tutoring students in law, history, English language and literature, and business. I regularly work with SEND students and cater my teaching style to the needs of each student that I work with.
The students that I have mentored have gone on to have successful careers, and my law students, in particular, have been called to the Bar and others have completed the SQE examinations, with many now working in private practice and 'magic circle' firms.
Outside of my vocational work, I take a keen interest in conflict resolution development within teams. I also currently lead mentorship and development programmes with university students across the North East.
Personalised Guidance: I provide one-on-one support to understand each student's unique needs, strengths, and areas for improvement. This enables me to tailor my teaching methods and materials to suit your learning style.
Engagement and Interaction: I foster an interactive learning environment, encouraging students to ask questions, participate actively, and engage with the subject matter. This keeps them motivated and interested in the learning process.
Clear Communication: I prioritise effective communication, explaining complex concepts in a clear, understandable manner. Various teaching aids and examples will be used to illustrate key points.
Adaptability: I recognise that each student may face different challenges, so I adapt my teaching methods as needed. Whether it's adjusting the pace of learning or providing additional practice, I ensure students receive the support that they require.
Regular Assessment: I believe in continuous assessment to gauge a student's progress. This includes quizzes, tests, or essays to identify areas that need improvement and the areas that need celebrating.
Goal-Oriented: My tutoring is goal-oriented, with a clear focus on helping students achieve their objectives, whether it's improving grades, mastering a subject, or gaining confidence in their abilities.
Patient and Supportive: I approach tutoring with patience and a supportive attitude. I understand that learning can be challenging, so I provide encouragement and reassurance during the learning journey.
Lifelong Learning: As a tutor, I also emphasise the importance of lifelong learning, instilling a curiosity and passion for acquiring knowledge beyond the immediate subject matter.
