My name is Evangelia (Eva), and I am a native Greek speaker with a Bachelor’s degree in Greek Language and Literature from the University of Crete and a Master’s degree in Language Studies from Lancaster University, UK.
I have over 15 years of experience as a Greek language tutor, teaching students of all ages. For the past seven years, since moving to the UK, I have specialized in teaching Greek as a Foreign or Second Language. I have taught adults at institutions such as the International House of London, Aspire Sussex Adult Education Centre, and the Alexandria Institute in Athens.
Currently, I serve as the Headteacher at the Greek School of Brighton, a supplementary school dedicated to teaching the Greek language and culture to both children and adults.
In addition, I am the owner of a private tuition centre, where I offer both one-to-one and group lessons—delivered face-to-face and online—helping students develop their speaking, reading, and writing skills in Greek.
I am also the founder of a popular Facebook community that brings together thousands of students and friends of the Greek language from around the world.
Through years of experience, I have developed and refined my teaching methods, adapting them to meet the diverse needs, goals, and learning styles of my students.
I have worked in various educational settings and have developed schemes of work and lesson plans aligned with curriculum objectives and learners’ individual needs. My teaching experience includes:
Teaching children and adults Greek as a foreign or second language, through one-to-one, group, face-to-face, and online lessons.
Teaching Ancient Greek, Modern Greek, and Greek Mythology at Aspire Sussex Adult Education Centre.
Teaching Greek Language and Culture at the Greek School of Brighton.
Teaching university students, both in groups and in private lessons, in subjects such as Ancient Greek Language and Literature, Latin, Modern Greek Language and Literature, History, Philosophy, Ancient Drama, and English.
Delivering online courses in Greek Language and Culture to international learners.
Teaching Approach
I am always open to my pupils’ suggestions and aim to organise each lesson according to their individual needs, goals, and language level. My lessons are carefully structured and tailored to meet my students’ expectations.
Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are developed through interactive, engaging, and productive activities. I use a wide variety of materials to make each session enjoyable and stimulating, while paying close attention to details that help students who wish to deeply engage with the Greek language.
I speak Greek as much as possible during lessons, as I believe that immersion is the most effective way for learners to acquire the language quickly and naturally—even if they start with no prior knowledge.
Above all, I view learning as a dynamic and experiential process, shaped by the interaction between tutor and student. I maintain a caring and supportive approach, regularly discussing progress with my students and setting new goals and challenges to keep them motivated and confident in their learning journey.
