Emma

I am an experienced and successful teacher of Psychology at GCSE and A-Level. I have also taught a number of other subjects including Creative Writing, Criminology, and Critical Thinking. I fell in love with Psychology at A-Level, then attended the University of Exeter to earn my degree in Psychology and French. As a graduate, I obtained a temporary teaching role, which led to my decision to train as a teacher. I later attended the University of Oxford to gain my Master's degree in Creative Writing, before returning to teaching.

Tutoring Experience

I am a highly experienced teacher, having taught in secondary schools, sixth form colleges, and at university. I have taught extensively at A-level, including the AQA, OCR, and EdExcel (Pearson) specifications. I have also taught the Access to HE and International Baccalaureate Psychology courses and am an examiner for A-Level Psychology. My students have a very good record of high grades, frequently exceeding their target grades, and I have helped many to secure places at top universities, to study Psychology and other subjects.

Tutoring Approach

In the first session I will always discuss what the student wants to achieve in our lessons and how they like to learn. We will identify the areas which they find the most challenging and make sure we build in lots of focus on those. I like to use a variety of methods to teach and it is extremely important for me that my students always feel comfortable to ask questions when they don't understand anything. I'm well aware that exam technique is often a source of worry, so I use lots of exam-style questions along the way to make sure students are confident tackling the questions they will face in their exams. I'm happy to mark written work between or during lessons and am always happy to adapt lessons as we go along to suit the individual.
