I recently completed my PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from Imperial College London where I then worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. Prior to this I graduated from University College London (UCL) with a 1st class degree in Medicinal Chemistry in September 2017 and was delighted to receive the Parke Davis Prize for the 'Most distinguished work in Medicinal Chemistry' amongst my peers. I have completed A-level Mathematics (A*), Chemistry (A), Biology (A), Physics (A), Accounting (A) and Modern Greek (A) at school, as well as additional IGCSEs in Geography (A*), French (A*), English as a first language (A) and English Literature (A*), providing me with a very diverse and multi-disciplinary background.

In March 2022 I transitioned into a full-time career in education as I love teaching and hope to use my in-depth research experience and real life examples to inspire the next generation of scientists.

Tutoring Experience

Over the last 10 years I have worked with students helping them with school work and preparing them for their GCSE (Maths, Chemistry, Biology), AS (Chemistry and Biology), A-level (Chemistry and Biology) and university exams (organic chemistry). This accounts for more than 1000 hours of combined teaching experience. I am familiar with the specifications from a variety of exam boards (Edexcel, AQA, OCR) and can tailor sessions according to the needs of each student. Additionally, I have been teaching undergraduates at Imperial College for the last three years, assisting in laboratory classes, delivering tutorial sessions and small problem classes.

Tutoring Approach

Throughout secondary school I was helping my friends out with their studies as I could provide them with an alternative way of learning and remembering things. This made me realise that in order to do well, you need to like what you are studying and this is what I aim to do with my students-make them like the topic by providing real-life applications of their knowledge! This ultimately translates to amazing exam results.

Through my tutoring experience I’ve learnt that each student has a unique learning profile and hence I tailor the lesson to the needs and capabilities of each individual. As a young tutor I can engage better with my students and this is reflected in my teaching methods. I use a combination of techniques (going through notes, worked examples, past paper questions, mini games etc) to address each topic, making each tutoring session as enjoyable as possible.

Since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, I had to adapt my lessons to be delivered online. I use a combination of Zoom, virtual whiteboards and specialist chemistry/biology drawing softwares as well as detailed notes to facilitate learning. Each lesson is tailored to the needs of each student and adjusted according to their goals. This has received great feedback from tutees so far.

Tutees are given actual exam questions to practice throughout the year to start building exam technique early on. This approach has massively improved the results obtained by my students the last two years!
