I used to deliver my lessons in person but moved onto online lessons since the Covid outbreak. My students have easily adapted to this mode of learning and parents find it easier since supervision isn't required and lessons can be recorded, photos can be taken and notes printed. My tutees' parents are always very kind in recommending me and, with my recent move to Scotland and with the use of online lessons, there has been minimal face-to-face contact. This has opened up more spaces for new students especially as the year 11s have now moved on.
I have taught mathematics in Secondary and Grammar schools at secondary level and adults at College.
However, I prefer to give individual lessons since there is the opportunity of learning how each student thinks, what they find difficult to understand and hence how to develop their mathematical thinking.
I have now been tutoring pupils from years 4 to 11 for at least 20 years.
Individually planned lessons, targeted to students' current needs. We ensure that topics being delivered in the classroom are understood and the homework can be completed. I usually progress with the topic being studied in class to a higher level too. If time allows, we do a little revision or start a new topic.
We work together: I don't usually give homework nor practice sheets to be done during the lesson. We discuss topics and work through examples together until the student is confident with the task.
