Online Chemistry and Biology Lessons

Oxford/ Abingdon Tutor
I studied Biochemistry at The University of Oxford, before deciding to train as a Science teacher. I completed my PGCE at Oxford University, and then started teaching at a School in Oxford.

I have now started my own private tutoring business aimed at providing personalised support to students studying Science to help them grow in their confidence and boost their attainment.

For 10 years I have been helping students to achieve their maximum potential, both in the classroom and through private tuition. I have taught Biology and Chemistry up to A Level and Physics up to GCSE. I have been responsible for developing schemes of work designed to engage and challenge students in their learning. I have extensive experience in designing resources and assessments for a range of different age groups and abilities. These skills are integral to my tutoring methods.

Here is a review of my tutoring:

“Elisabeth has tutored my daughter in Chemistry A-Levels for more than 10 months. Thanks to Elisabeth, my daughter has regained her confidence and is now working towards an A* in Chemistry for her A-levels. Elisabeth has been an exceptional tutor for my daughter. She is very good at explaining concepts in a clear way so that everything seems simple. She is very professional, organised and reliable, which for a parent, is also a plus. She can give detailed feedback about how your child is progressing, which is helpful too. I could not recommend her highly enough.”

Tutoring Experience

I have 10 years of experience teaching GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics and A Level Biology and Chemistry. I spent 7 years teaching in school and have carried out at least 2000 hours of tutoring. My role as Head of Chemistry has given me a good insight into how to help students make progress and succeed, and also provided me with lots of skills and resources to help with this. I have also had many hours of tutoring experience in Science and Maths, covering a range of exam boards. I have experience supporting students who are aiming to improve their grades.

Tutoring Approach

My lessons are carried out online using Zoom. I have found that this method is most effective for tuition as it enables greater student engagement and participation as well as maximising flexibility for covering different topics within a lesson using a range of resources.

I use an online interactive whiteboard and Zoom’s screen sharing functionality to share resources. My lessons combine a range of different components, from explanations and diagrams using the whiteboard, to exam question practice. At the end of the lesson all notes and resources used are uploaded to the student’s own virtual Google Classroom for them to access whenever they like. This organises their resources clearly, making independent study easier and helping with revision.

I use a clear straightforward style to provide personalised in-depth tutoring to students studying Science. My aim is to help students grow in confidence, to increase their scientific understanding and improve their exam technique in order for them to maximise their attainment.

To consolidate understanding, I follow up explanations with appropriate questions/exam questions using the shared screen function. Any resources used during a lesson are then sent to the student. If parents or students request it, I will set homework which can be used to further consolidate the lesson content or to prepare for the next lesson.
