Maths Tutoring in Fulham

I have 6 years of experience as a Maths teacher in London secondary schools and 13 years of experience as a private tutor. Currently I work as a data scientist, which allows me to apply statistics and algebra to solve interesting problems, but I absolutely love teaching and consider it a privilege to help my students achieve academic success and embrace their inner mathematicians!

Tutoring Experience

Data Science Instructional Associate (2018)
- developed materials, planned & delivered lessons, and provided feedback and support for students in statistics, algebra, and Python coding.

Mathematics tutor (2005 - 2014 and 2018 - present)
- delivered 1:1 tutoring to over 25 students, assisting with homework and exam preparation while working to develop students' enthusiasm and confidence in their own mathematical abilities
- prepared students for exams in: GCSE Mathematics (including the new specifications), IB Mathematics, SATs and AP Statistics (both American qualifications), and secondary school entrance exams

Secondary school Maths teacher (2011 - 2017)
- completed rigorous Teach First Leadership Development Programme while teaching mathematics through GCSE level
- improved student attainment through engaging lessons, precise planning, rich formative assessment, and comprehensive support to students and parents
- taught hundreds of students aged 11-16, at all different ability levels
- consistent record of success in supporting my students to achieve or exceed their expected progress goals

Tutoring Approach

I am absolutely uncompromising in these fundamental beliefs:

  1. Every single student can become a better mathematician. As a teacher, there are no excuses for my students not reaching their full potential on my watch.

  2. Every single student deserves to feel confident in themselves and excited about their progress. My job is to lift my students up, and they should never feel stupid or discouraged while I'm teaching them.

At the most basic level, it's crucial that my students respect and trust me. I always want to be friendly, encouraging, sensitive to how my students are feeling, and interested in my students' ambitions.

Beyond that, I am lucky to be able to draw on my extensive experience as a Maths teacher to enhance the support I am able to offer as a tutor. Over my years in secondary schools, I have developed a strong understanding of what is expected by exam boards and I have created a rich bank of teaching resources which I now use as a tutor.

In particular I have benefited from learning advanced and varied teaching techniques as part of my professional development as a teacher. These include different approaches that you might use with different styles of learning, different ability levels, and special educational needs. I have a lot of strategies in particular for assessing how deeply a student understands what they've been taught, whether there are any misconceptions that need to be addressed, and how to appropriately consolidate and extend their knowledge.
