## Personal Description:

I am a young enthusiastic maths tutor based in Brighton.

## Tutoring Experience:

I take tutorials for some 1st and 2nd year Mathematics courses at The University of Sussex and I teach GCSE level maths at an independent school in Brighton. I have also been tutoring one-to-one for many years.

Testimonials:

"Edward has been a fantastic mentor for my son, even making him want to carry on with Maths at As level when his college have told him to give up."

Mrs Pooles - A level

“I honestly could not recommend Ed’s tuition highly enough. In the three years that he taught me I went from a U grade in my mock GCSE maths, to an A* at A2 level! I’ll be starting medical school in September and I could not have got there without Ed’s help, would recommend to anyone.”

Jo - GCSE & A level

"Edward helped both me and my daughter with Maths tuition this year, for GCSE higher level and IGCSE respectively. We both made excellent progress and grew in confidence with help and encouragement from Ed, who combines an easygoing manner with an extremely serious and professional approach to teaching his subject. Ed is able to get right to the heart of a student's confusion very quickly and to give clear and well-illustrated explanations. I couldn't recommend Ed more highly."

Jill - GCSE

## Tutoring Approach:

I encourage the tutee to take an active part in deciding what it is they need to learn/review. Past papers done in their own time normally provide a good basis for helping one decide which areas of the syllabus have been understood and which have not been so well. I hold informal but focused tutorials.

**From Sophie ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Edward has tutored both my daughters for their Maths and further maths A levels. He was extremely knowledgeable not just with regards to the subject but also the course content and exams. Both daughters did extremely well getting A*. They both really enjoyed the lessons and found him approachable and kind.

**From Patrick ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*I have never considered myself good at maths.I was always in the middle set and in the summer of 2015 I achieved a C grade in my GCSE. The following year I re took my GCSE maths and achieved a low B grade, despite my desire to study economics at a top university, I had given up on the prospect of taking an a level maths (required to study at my uni). In the summer of 2017, I decided that I wanted to give the a level maths my best shot and to try and get into my desired course. This is when I found Ed online, I spoke to Ed at his house and from the very start not only did he make me feel relaxed but he also assured me that I had the capability providing I worked hardly. During the year in which I completed my maths A level, Ed impressed me throughout. His ability to apply mathematics to the real life helped me to remain fully engaged whilst also allowing me to have a greater understanding behind the concepts. If ever I was stuck, Ed would always find alternative mathematical approaches to try and allow me to work out the solution. Every lesson was fast moving and challenging yet I looked forward to each and every one. In one year, Ed helped me go from a GCSE retake student to achieving an A grade in the new spec a level maths. If you want results, go for Ed, I have had tutors in the past and I can assure you he really is the best you will find.

**From Jack ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Ed helped me over a period of about 18 months as I retook my Maths GCSE to improve my grade. I had not formally studied mathematics since 2009 but the tutoring was set at the perfect level of intensity.

There was not a single subject that Ed did not make simple and digestible, making sure everything is covered and all questions are answered. Using different teaching techniques in order to ensure that everything had been absorbed, and you will be able to repeat the exercises in a test environment.

Truly grateful for all of help.

**From Ilda ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Excellent tutor, very professional. His teaching techniques were exactly what my daughter needed in order to progress on her knowledge and understanding of the subject. Edward made my daughter feel comfortable and more confident after only the first lessons and her results have improved significantly. She enjoyed the meetings a lot. Thank you Edward. I would highly recommend Edward to anyone looking for Mathematic tutor.

**From Olivia ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*My son has seen Edward a couple of times and found him very helpful for A1 maths .

He has been able to clarify certain topics for my son so that he is able to work independently with more confidence.

**From Abie ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*Friendly and helpful tutor. Connected well with my child. Was clear in his explanations. My son enjoyed his sessions with Edward (which is the first part of the battle in getting him to study). Not had the GCSE results yet, but in any case Edward definitely increased my son's confidence and understanding of maths.

**From Abby ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*My sons have found Ed's help invaluable. They really enjoy his teaching style and he covers any topics they want to go through, in detail ensuring they understand, before moving on. We're really glad we found him!

**From Alice ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Edward has been tutoring me in A2 maths for a few months now, and our sessions are going really well. He listens patiently when I explain something I don't understand, and answers my questions clearly and his explanations are always thorough. He tailors lessons to my learning style and is helping stay me on track. I always feel comfortable working with Ed and leave our sessions feeling newly inspired and eager to continue. I believe Ed will do everything he can to help me succeed as he seems to genuinely care about my progress, and my confidence in my own ability has grown accordingly. I would highly recommend him.

**From Mary ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*My son saw Edward for just one session but he was perfect for what was required, explaining things well and in a clear and enthusiastic way.

**From Jo ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Initially seemed like a very good match. After speaking to Ed on the phone, tutor doesn't travel, as it had indicated on the website… We tried to work it out, but we just couldn't… Such a shame! Very nice guy though :)

**From Karen ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Very professional. My son is really enjoying his tutor sessions and says it is definitely helping him.

**From Gaynor ( /5):**

*(GCSE Physics)*Was delighted that Ed orchestrated a really productive online lesson for my 15 year old to help with harder physics GCSE problems. Ed responded fantastically to questions, came up with great examples, and kept the pace of the lesson at a perfect pitch.

Superb, very professional.

Has really helped our son.

**From Soraya ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*I contacted Edward to arrange tutoring for my son's Maths GCSE re-sit. My son had two sessions with Edward, which he really enjoyed, and his subsequent results showed a marked improvement. I would not hesitate in recommending Edward as he is very friendly and polite.

**From Catherine ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Excellent teacher - daughter needed some extra help with C3 and C4 papers at A level. Ed explained the solutions well and she found his advice very useful. I am sure she will be able to get the A grade she needs.

**From Amanda ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*Edward helped my son with some final revision just before his maths gcse. My son found his tuition incredibly helpful. I'd definitely ask for Edward's help again.

**From Jacqueline ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*I cannot praise Edward enough!! He taught my son Louis over several months to prepare him for his GCSE Higher Maths. Not only did he get him to the predicted A - A* result but Louis really enjoyed his lessons. He has a fantastic teaching technique and Louis said that all of the areas where he was having trouble, Edward explained them so clearly and in such an interesting manner that he found it so much easier! He is a very special teacher and when Louis had to leave him he was very sad. Big thanks again Edward!

**Reply from Edward:**It was a real pleasure to tutor Louis. He was very interested in the subject and asked excellent questions.

**From Os ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*We chose Ed because of his excellent reviews and were not disappointed. My son (studying AS level) returned from each lesson bursting to practice what he had learnt and eager to work much harder- maths is by far his favourite subject now.

**From Alex ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*My son found Ed's teaching excellent and really helped him with his Further Maths A level. Highly recommended.

**From Alison ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*My son had not been keen when I suggested extra maths tuition in the run up to GCSEs. But he found Ed's help really good and is sure it contributed to his A grade.

**From Fiona ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Edward successfully tutored my daughter for her Maths AS level after she was asked to leave her college course 2 months before her exam. He restored her confidence in Maths, and she went from a possible fail, to a C grade. I would highly reccomend.

**From Jennifer ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Edward was very approachable, positive and flexible. We booked a 2 hour lesson, and as my son was making some important breakthroughs Edward continued the lesson until his next pupil arrived. The tuition has been enormously helpful, adding greatly to my son's confidence, and his mock exam following the session produced a much better than expected result. I would recommend Edward to anyone looking for calm, supportive help with Maths.

**From Callum ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Has been a fantastic mentor for Callum even making Callum want to carry on with Maths at As level when his college have told him to give up.

**From June ( /5):**

*(A-Level Maths)*Edward is enthusiastic about maths and has made me more interested in the subject. He indentifies exactly where I need help and concentrates on this, which saves time. He is helpful but does not do the work for me. Edward has made all the difference and I am now much more confident in the subject

**Reply from Edward:**Thank you for your kind comments. I think we've worked together well.

**From Judith ( /5):**

*(GCSE Maths)*Edward has engaged our son in maths topics because he is friendly, approachable and enthusiastic without being formal or overbearing. Edward's friendly approach and easy manner have instilled confidence in us that our son will benefit from his skills.

**Reply from Edward:**Thank you Mrs Biddlestone for your kind comments. I look forward to working with your son in the future.
