Accomplished in cultivating long-term academic and pastoral relationships with students, aiming always to secure best outcomes. I took advantage of early retirement so that I could plan to work more flexibly, explore new opportunities and to have more time to enjoy personal interests.

I have undertaken a number private tutoring roles over the years, assisting students at GCSE and A level, while also helping adult learners. My teaching career is briefly outlined below.

As a successful department head for 18 years, my role was to teach Latin and Classics across all year groups in the senior school: Years 7 to 13.

Loretto is one of Scotland's premier independent boarding schools with an international reputation for the quality of its education and pastoral care. I taught Latin to GCSE, AS and A level, as well as A level Ancient History, through Years 9 to 13.

Classics Teacher

Repton is one of the UK's oldest and most respected independent boarding schools, and this was my first role as a Classics Teacher after completing my PGCE. It was a year-long maternity cover. I taught GCSE Classical Civilisation, A level Latin and A level Ancient History.

Tutoring Approach

As noted above, I aim to secure best outcomes, and so my approach will vary from student to student, especially when teaching one-to-one. With any new student, it's important to undertake an assessment of their own approach, and to begin to understand how they learn. From there, I would then look to build any program of study specifically tailored to their needs. The structure of lessons, materials used and style of teaching/learning will flow from that.

If extra tuition is undertaken in an effort to boost grades in examinations, it should be done in liaison with the relevant subject teacher who will be best placed to advise on any specific areas for improvement.
