Whether being reading, writing, speaking and listening, or language skills, I can offer one-to-one tuition to enable you to improve your skills in the subject of English. The first lesson will be used to map out a programme that will meet your educational needs and all subsequent lesson plans, resources and activities will be tailored to suit your specific requirements. For students studying English in a mainstream setting, this can be to improve upon your KS3 levels or to help you pass your GCSE or A Level examinations. For ESOL work, this can be to improve your reading, writing and conversational English.

Tutoring Experience

I am currently working as an Assistant Faculty Leader for English, a Key Stage Three Coordinator for English, and a whole school Gifted and Talented Coordinator, meaning I have up-to-date knowledge of the National Curriculum for Key Stages Three, Four and Five. I am also the lead teacher for A Level English Language and Literature.

I have been teaching in mainstream British education since 2008. Outside of my day-to-day role as an English teacher, I have undertaken one-to-one tutoring classes for pupils of differing ages and abilities. In addition, I have worked as an Examiner for a leading UK organisation, who provide assessment, training, and educational resources throughout the United Kingdom.

I have also taught both conversational and grammatical English to native Korean students, for whom English is a secondary language. I developed and delivered my own curriculum, which was specifically devised for students who were aged between 3 and 14 years of age. Lesson plans were tailor-made according to the specific capabilities and needs of each student. Pupils were regularly assessed via oral and written tests to ensure that every child progressed.

Tutoring Approach

I passionately believe that every child deserves the right to reach their full potential, to be the best they can be, whatever their ability, and I will work exceptionally hard to help each child achieve their utmost. Therefore, I will aim to make each lesson engaging, enjoyable and relevant as this will help inspire students to achieve and exceed their potential in English. Surpassing set target grades can increase a student’s confidence and encourage them to become a vocal and active member in society.

Sessions will enable students to take ownership of their work, which will in turn facilitate them in becoming completely immersed in the subject of English. This will not only maintain their attention but, more importantly, help facilitate them into producing a continual high standard of work. Furthermore, these sessions will aid students in recognising that English, and education in its entirety, is relevant to them and their lives. One reason why I chose to teach English is because I feel it is a vital subject that can help students in all areas of the curriculum, as well as in later life. Good literacy skills are fundamental for a student to succeed in any educational subject and these skills will also benefit a student once they have left school and started seeking employment.

A teacher should always clarify what is required of their students to attain above and beyond their own perceived potential. I will always endeavour to set high levels of challenge as each session will focus regularly on the student using their higher order thinking skills. Questioning will be used as a method to ensure that a student is engaged with the key ideas and objectives of each session. Metacognitive plenary tasks will be set to allow students to reflect upon their own learning and question the nature and validity of tasks that I have set them. Students will be actively involved in assessing the extent to which they have achieved their targets and to also identify methods that can help them improve.
