Passionate private tutor with a proven track record for helping student successfully surpass their target grades. I am inspired by supporting students of all abilities to help them realise and achieve their potential. I have completed a BSc Hon in Economics and Actuarial Science (1st Class) and MSc in Quantitative Finance (Distinction). I use my unique industry experience to help students understand the practical application of the mathematics they are studying and how it relates to their everyday lives.

Tutoring Experience

I have previously worked as an examination officer and have been a private tutor for over 15years, particularly specialising within GCSE and A-Level Mathematics. I have volunteered at a number of schools assisting in the teaching of maths to secondary school pupils and worked for a number of private tutoring companies. I have taught a number of student over the year and pride myself on my track record of A*/A Grade success rate at A-Level and 8/9 at GCSE Mathematics.

Experienced teaching:
• All examining boards including Edexcel, AQA and OCR MEI.
• Strong understanding of the new 1-9 grading system for GCSE Mathematics. Plus have developed a number of my own learning resources that contains lots of new specification questions with worked examples of the new level 8/9 questions.
• Over the years I have help a number of student navigate through the new specification for GCSE and A-Level Mathematics. A number of my students have attained level 8 and above at GCSE and grade A and higher at A-Level.
• STEP/AEA, tailored for exceptional students an additional Y13 mathematics examination forming part of conditional offers to applicants for mathematics and related degrees at Cambridge and other universities.

Tutoring Approach

Teaching Pedagogy: The vast majority of One-2-One tutors simply ‘turn-up-and-teach’ without adequate preparation. Maths is mostly about ‘understanding’, and less about ‘throw up facts’. A tutor gets ONE CHANCE to impart ‘understanding’ in a clear and coherent way. Not having prepared and risking an incomplete, confused or incoherent explanation instills confusion in the student, rather than confidence.

My tutoring sessions are:

• Completely tailored to your learning style and learning needs.
• Highly focused on exam technique and how to answer the tricky questions.
• Unlike most tutors who either set no homework at all or thoughtlessly set exercises from a textbook containing inappropriate questions. My homework is specifically written to complement the lesson, containing some questions designed for routine practice and some questions designed to challenge the student; encouraging them to ‘think’ and to develop their logical capacity.
• Full of past exam questions with worked examples. I give students plenty of past paper practice – but only at the right time, once they have a deep understanding of all of the individual topics within the syllabus. Far too many tutors use exam papers to ‘teach’ from, which means they are setting papers when the student isn’t ready: The upshot of that is the student’s scores fluctuate wildly and their confidence is destroyed.
• Designed to ensure you achieve an A* or 9 Grade.

The lessons are invigorating, inspirational and cutting edge as I keep a very thorough hold on my subject. With this immense experience, I have developed an approach which is very simple. I make the lessons fun and engaging. I try to promote interest in the subject so learning Maths becomes fun and an ongoing natural process. Students take this into the school environment and start seeing the results immediately. This reduces the burden from Maths and hence my students can focus on other subjects and achieve well holistically. (It’s not about getting an A* just in Maths. I know that!!)
