I have many years of experience in teaching both in school and out and have also taught within the area of special needs with a specialism in dyslexia, sensory and autism. I am currently semi retired and work part time doing 1:1 tutoring. I have a great interest in helping young people to achieve their full potential in life.
I have worked for over 30 years in the special school sector with a variety of children, from those who have a physical disability through to children who have problems with communication and hence behaviour. I have specialised in teaching children with multi sensory impairment and autism and am currently teaching English on a 1:1 basis to children with Aspergers and Autism. I also work with students with Dyslexia, who have benefited from my approach to teaching.
I have recently become an Examiner for GCSE English Literature for AQA and completed my first marking period in the 2017 exam series.
I have a quiet and calm approach to teaching and will work from the student's own ability level, encouraging them to learn at their own pace and increase self esteem along the way. Many children and young people thrive with 1:1 work and it fulfills a need that schools very often don't have time to give. Due to the current Covid 19 pandemic, I am currently offering online Zoom sessions and will be for the forseeable future.
