I come from a family of linguists and so have a strong interest in languages. I speak English, Gujarati and Spanish fluently and currently have conversational Italian and a working knowledge of Hindi. As part of my degree I spent a year abroad studying Economics in Spanish at the Universidad de Granada (Spain). This experience has allowed me to reach a C1 level as set out by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). In addition, I have completed the following Spanish courses:
“Curso de Español como lengua extranjera (60 horas)”. “Spanish as a foreign language (60 hours)”. Level B2.2 (Higher Advanced). Grade 9/10. Location: Granada.
“Lengua y civilización española (25 horas)”. “Spanish language and civilisation (25 hours)”. Level B1 (Intermediate). Grade average 9/10. Location: Madrid.
Reasons to choose me as your tutor:
1. I limit my students to ensure I maintain my teaching quality across all students. This is evidenced by my reviews thus far.
2. I tell you exactly which books are worth purchasing to boost your knowledge and hence save you the time and stress of searching and contemplating.
3. I provide full worked solutions to all questions from the books we will use together so your child can recap the methods taught in our lesson.
4. I have unrivalled patience and can boost my students’ confidence in a subject.
5. I provide honest advice and feedback throughout.
6. I monitor the progress and learning objectives of my students to ensure they are maximising their potential.
7. I am a punctual and reliable individual.
I have been tutoring full time since 2016 and have taught a number of students GCSE and A-level Spanish, KS3, GCSE and A-Level Maths.
I am currently preparing several students for upcoming 11+ entrance exams (Maths and Non-verbal) at top schools such as Forest, Bancrofts, City of London boys, Westcliff and Woodford County High School.
11+: I specialise in Maths and Non-Verbal. I have made my own 11+ question bank which mirrors the style of questions asked in the exams and run mock exam sessions and provide feedback on improvement areas.
Spanish: My lessons are creative, involve plenty of exercises, vocabulary drills and strengthening grammar overall as in my view this is the backbone to learning a language. Oral discussions are formed from Spanish newspaper articles or from the key topics in the textbook. Homework is set to reinforce the key points learned in class. Lastly, I focus on exam technique as this is crucial to attaining the highest marks.
Maths: My lessons involve going through all topics in the exam syllabus, learning the necessary theory and reinforcing the students' understanding through an abundance of questions. Homework will also be exercises which will aid their understanding. As the exam date approaches, I focus on past papers to ensure they are entering their exam as ready as one can be. I have always set the bar high and ensure my students extract the most out of their potential. Please note that I cover all exam boards for all subjects (OCR, Edexcel, AQA, OCR MEI etc.).
From my experience throughout school and university, I have noticed the prospect of learning a foreign language or challenging subjects in general can be daunting and students often have low confidence levels as a result. I would like to share with you the techniques that I followed to achieve these high marks whilst making the learning experience thoroughly enjoyable. I always set the bar high to ensure my students maximise their potential. Lastly, I offer out of contact hours assistance should my students have any queries regarding the exercises set or otherwise.

I would not hesitate to recommend devan to anyone one looking for a maths tutor.
He teaches ina very creative way.
Dev started tutoring my daughter last year, as parents I was quite concerned that we had left it too late to prepare my daughter for 11+ Maths. Despite our concerns, we was all able to to work with Dev to identify areas that my daughter need further learning on. Dev worked with Iqra on a different topic every week and throughly went through maths work with her.
Dev was patient, warm and friendly in his teaching manner. He was considerate in listening to our views and took them on board. Dev is very knowledgable in his subjects and teaches them well.
My daughter has been offered a place at one an independent schools to which is she happy about!
My daughter says "Thank you for all your help and teaching me maths, it has benefited me greatly and it has increased my confidence in the subject".
Dev gave up alot of his time and was spending a evening or maybe 2 a week and weekends with a lot of patience went through all the gaps in my child's maths and within a few solid weeks the marks were at over 50% which is phenomenal. Other tutors had said there was no hope my child passing the entrance exams because of the tough competition and limited places.
As the exams approached in January that is 1 month of solid tutoring my child was achieving over 60% that was a remarkable turnaround. Suddenly the child enjoyed maths and the attention to detail shown by Dev was second to none.
I waited till the results were out before I gave Dev a review as I think its only fair to give an accurate review at a time when a schools marks a maths paper and to my astonishment my child has been offered 3 places in top private schools. In one of the schools he scored 76% in maths.
Great work Dev can't thank you enough this was a journey we all went through including the tutor and i am so happy that I chose the right tutor.
I have no issues with recommending Dev.
With regards to “too much talking and wasting time”, this was our very first lesson and given the level of communication you had displayed in messages and on calls prior to our meeting, I had to ask you further questions to clarify my understanding. You were also not willing to be transparent which further delayed the start time of our lesson.
Since commencing with First Tutors in 2016, my fees have never been at a rate of £30 for a 11+ student and so there is no need to misrepresent the facts. Other students that I have accepted before you in the same month, have agreed and accepted the same rate at that time of £45. You were fully aware of the rate prior to purchasing my details as First Tutors shows this on my profile. It is crystal clear. Also, to further emphasise the levels of misrepresentation, there are more independent schools offering 11+ entry than grammar schools in the area that I operate. Therefore, “he quickly change the price to £45” on knowing that you had applied for an independent school is absolutely absurd. The rate has been the same irrespective of the type of school that parents have applied for.
To further demonstrate the difficulty in working with you, after our first lesson, I offered you a slot for a second lesson. You confirmed that the time would be okay. A day before the lesson, you cancelled and said: “sorry again but am find tutor who is doing both English and Maths”. I had no issues with you searching for another tutor. After a week or so, you came back asking for a two hour slot which I simply could not provide as I was at full capacity.
Furthermore, the levels of communication that you have displayed and the repetitive calling and messaging throughout has made it extremely difficult to cooperate with you. I am not surprised that the previous tutor had to stop lessons with you. I would strongly urge other tutors to not accept you for the reasons above and also because of the levels of misrepresentation that you have demonstrated here.
In summary, you have written this negative review after one lesson due to your disappointment, in knowing that it was your incompetence, ill judgement and lamentable decision making that has resulted in your son missing out on a tutor that genuinely cares about his understanding and progress.
Dev was extremely calm and patient. He always arrived promptly for their sessions. He really helped my son gain confidence over a 2 month period and as a result we have lined up additional sessions for my son's final year at 6th form.
I cannot rate Dev highly enough.
Dev is a kind, down-to-earth person and my daughter felt very comfortable and relaxed in his company. He was always on time and polite and respectful in our home.
My son feels alot better and enjoys his lessons… which that in itself speaks volumes. I will be using dev again when it's my daughters turn. Would highly recommend.
Provided an excellent initial lesson and quickly identified or requirements.
I would highly recommend.
