Philosophy / Critical Thinking
As a parent I understand the stress and pressure that students can experience on their learning journey. My personal philosophy is rooted in self-development and facilitating others to learn.
I enjoy travel, reading and walking. I am a diligent martial artist, a keen musician - if no longer fully professional - and have worked as a copywriter.
I'm a fully qualified teacher and have been teaching continuously for the last fifteen years, and was designated as an 'Outstanding' teacher by Ofsted in October 2013. As head of Religious Studies, Philosophy & Ethics for five years I gained a wealth of experience teaching A level, GCSE and KS3 RS and Philosophy. I've also been teaching A level Sociology since 2006. I have trained as an assessor / marker for OCR in Religious Studies. I have enjoyed a wide-ranging teaching career, working in a variety of schools. I have an SEN qualification and have worked in pupil referral units.
My approach is very much student-centred. I assess the student's strengths and weaknesses in order to facilitate progress within the context of the learning environment. If public exams are the student's priority I can offer an on-going package of regular support, and / or an intense revision programme as exam dates approach. Alternatively I can provide bespoke courses for students who want to proceed at a more leisurely pace.
