This is how 2 referees rated David:
My name is David. I am experienced at tutoring maths to GCSE and A level.
I am not a clock watcher so you’ll always get value for money.
I have been tutoring for 8 years since completing a degree and masters in maths at the university of Manchester. My experience has been a wide range from those more confident students to those looking for help to try and build on their confidence.
I would be happy to provide you with some references if you think you would be interested in lessons.
I often find that the main thing to get right when tutoring is to find a suitable pace for the student which is testing but not too fast for them. It’s always better to understand a few things fully and build on that understanding than to try and do too much too quickly.
When students find maths difficult it is more often than not that they have missed a small amount of understanding along the way that has made the next few steps difficult. The first thing I generally try to do is to go back to easier questions to confirm where the student is more or less confident and patch up any gaps in understanding. This makes it much easier for us to progress forward with more demanding questions.
After this I try to relate difficult questions back to easier examples we're seen. This makes those tricky questions a lot less intimidating.

I am very grateful for the help he gave me towards my higher level Maths papers and wish I had found out about him sooner!
He is never in a hurry to leave, is flexible and will move at the pace that she is comfortable with. Really pleased she has him as her tutor, even better as she picked him.
The biggest accolade comes from Conor himself … someone who has struggled enormously with maths and confidence in his abilities in the subject … “Although we are having 2 hourly tutoring sessions, it only feels like 20 minutes because David makes it fun, interesting, explains everything really well and makes me want to succeed”. Continued tutoring for the second exam has really pushed Conor who feels he has “learnt and understood more in 8 weeks than I did in a whole year at school”. Praise indeed and it is most worthy. We cannot recommend David highly enough, apart from being a great maths tutor he is also an extremely personable, unassuming young man who is more than willing to sacrifice his own time to ensure subjects are covered off fully before ending a session. David is also timely, efficient and keen to praise and recognise his students efforts.
Seb says that David's explanations of topics make them so easy to understand .
He is a highly proficient tutor but warm and friendly , reliable and motivated .
David doesn't just go over current school work . he aims to move students on to new topics , so that they are always ahead in school and therefore increase in confidence .
Seb and I would thoroughly recommend David and are so lucky to have found him .
