I am married with two grown up daughters who are both married and have two grandchildren.
In addition to my career as a teacher I have worked within the Financial Services sector thereby enabling me further develop my communication skills as well broaden my experience. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and in particular appreciating the reward of helping the pupils I tutor to gain confidence in themselves, catch up where they have fallen behind academically as well as assisting them to work towards achieving their full potential.
I am a qualified teacher with almost 18 years experience working in both Junior and Primary schools as a classroom teacher teaching the full curriculum. Since the recent Government initiative to assist children in schools who are falling behind, I have worked full time between several different schools in Kent teaching pupils on a 1-2-1 basis who require further assistance in Literacy and numeracy. In addition I tutor pupils on a private basis in Literacy, numeracy as well as verbal and non verbal reasoning with the aim of working towards the 11+ test in year 6.
My approach to teaching is firstly to get to know the pupil I am tutoring both as a person and academically. I strongly believe that if a child is to stand any chance of reaching their potential it is very important that they enjoy the work we are doing together thereby assisting their motivation to learn. Irrespective of the child’s ability I focus on encouragement and praise during the 1-2-1 lessons with the aim of building their confidence which is often one of the reasons they have fallen behind in their studies.
