(PLEASE NOTE I currently have no before or after school availability but do have daytime sessions, eg for home tuition or Zoom sessions to different time zones.)
Based in Walthamstow, north-east London, I‘m the former head teacher of two local primary schools and have taken early retirement. Outside of teaching, I enjoy hillwalking, open water swimming, gardening and walking our dogs.
Before my 20-year teaching career, I was a journalist for a dozen years - as a national magazine editor and journalist, in the spheres of athletics, the outdoors and photography. I was also a freelance contributor to a range of local and national newspapers as well as national magazines.

Tutoring Experience

Trained at Bath Spa University, I have extensive classroom experience at Years 2 to 6, always judged Outstanding - including by Ofsted. I am a former Maths and English Leader and an Advanced Skills Teacher. My experience also includes one-to-one and small group teaching within school to boost children who need extra help and extend and challenge those with higher attainment.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that learning should be fun for kids. Whether tutoring for the 11 plus or working with primary or early secondary pupils, my sessions are designed with each child’s needs at the forefront. I carry out age-related assessments to ascertain gaps in knowledge and/or work on information supplied by your child’s school. I can work on a mixture of 11 plus verbal and non-verbal reasoning, plus appropriate level Maths and English - or specialise in one area.
I offer tuition in my home in Walthamstow village (parents welcome to stay) or online via Zoom, Google Meet or Teams.
