I am a recently retired secondary school senior leader where I specialised in data, assessment and examinations. I lead on the submission of Centre Assessed Grades in 2020 and Teacher Assessed Grades in 2021 when examinations were not possible. I am also a qualified school timetable writer. I line manage heads of faculty including several heads of science and have guided them into being excellent leaders and practitioners, able to raise the quality of science delivery to students in the classroom. Having line managed examinations for many years, I have an excellent comprehension of the examinations system in the UK and a thorough understanding of how to get the best out of it for my students.

Tutoring Experience

With thirty-four years of teaching experience I can confidently and expertly help, support, encourage and guide students to better grades. I teach all three sciences, biology, chemistry and physics at key stage 3 and GCSE level and I specialise in A Level Chemistry. Over my teaching career, I have taught students from all cultures, faiths and backgrounds and students of all abilities, something for which I am extremely proud. I am an examiner for Pearson Edexcel and have been so for 30 years, gaining invaluable insight into how marks are awarded on exam scripts through being involved in pre-standardisation meetings which develop mark schemes for examination papers.

Tutoring Approach

I have a lifelong love of learning. I believe learning should be fun and hopefully the students I teach now and have taught will agree with this! I am an enthusiastic deliverer of science knowledge and skills and I am flexible with my teaching methods to suit my tutees. One size does not fit all. A parent of a recent tutee reviewed me by saying “why aren’t all science teachers like this!” Over my teaching career I have taught thousands of students who have gone on to successful careers, including medical consultants, solicitors, doctors, business leaders and those who have gone on to be teachers themselves.
I offer face to face lessons or online lessons to suit each individual. I will be available to book from September for the coming academic year. Lesson fees are £45 per hour per student for GCSE and £55 per hour per student for A level.
