I am a friendly and approachable Maths teacher working in a very successful secondary school in Middleton. I am passionate about ensuring my teaching offers pupils the opportunity to reach their potential and achieve their academic goals. I am a highly ambitious teacher who has experience teaching from year 7 through to A level. I qualified as an outstanding trainee across all areas and have continued to achieve outstanding feedback throughout my teaching career thus far, being described as a "highly effective practitioner."
I have a 2:1 BSc degree in Mathematics with Finance from Queens University Belfast and gained QTS and trained to be a teacher at the University of Manchester.
I trained in two very high achieving schools with very different cultures and ethos; one a grammar school and the other was an outstanding and high performing faith school. Whilst at these schools, I developed innovative pedagogical methods to my teaching. I have experience teaching A level from both schools (and my current school), particularly in the core modules (C1-C4). I currently work in a Catholic high school in Middleton where I have two year 11 classes with GCSE targets ranging from grade 5-9. I have a 100% pass rate at GCSE and am committed to maintaining this for the benefit of my pupils. I have a very high performing A level class who are aiming for the top grades at KS5.
Ensuring maths is accessible to all is my motivation. My approach to tutoring is that the pupil's needs and development are at the core. I am very motivated, hardworking and committed towards helping pupils reach their potential. Teaching maths is a pleasure and I always work with pupils towards correcting misconceptions with knowledge and calculations that are common in the subject. During sessions I will discuss and explain key features and go through some examples before allowing the tutee some time to work on problems on their own to assess their understanding (then challenge them with extension tasks if necessary). I will set a homework, based on what I teach in the lesson, for them to practice over the week which I will mark and give feedback. I am flexible and often integrate a number of approaches in order to tailor to every pupil's individual needs
