I completed my Primary PGCE with a specialism in Maths (July 2009) and immediately took up a full-time teaching position at a very good Warrington school. I am in my ninth year of teaching and currently fulfil the roles of Maths, Pe and Gifted & Talented coordinators. I currently teach in Upper Key Stage Two, though have taught across both Key Stages in the past. Prior to being a teacher, I worked as a teaching assistant for 3 years.
In my 7 years of tutoring, I have found that sessions often take one of two approaches:
1) If your child is low on confidence in Maths/English or is struggling to keep pace with others in the class, our sessions would involve working hard to ensure the 'basics' are as secure as possible. This could mean securing knowledge of place value and 4 rules in maths, or securing knowledge of basic punctuation and grammar vocabulary in English.
2) If your child is confident in English/Maths, our sessions may look ahead in the curriculum to advance their skills, or work on broadening their knowledge through problem solving/reasoning activities in maths, or looking at how to apply punctuation and manipulate sentences in different ways in English.
My 13 years of working with children have taught me that a lack of confidence is often the biggest barrier when it comes learning. If a child lacks confidence then they will struggle to try new things out of fear of being wrong. If a teacher can develop a 'growth' mindset, where children are willing to step out of their comfort zones and push themselves, then increased progress is never far behind. All I ask from my students is that they try their best and are willing to try new things.

|Tutees Providing Positive Feedback:|
Danniel used fun methods to teach and explain, concentrating only on areas which were necessary and ensuring everything was completely understood before moving onto something else. Our son looked forward to his visits from Danniel and described his extra tuition as fun and 'the tests being more like a challenging game rather than a lesson'. He was genuinely sad when the lessons finished before Christmas, Danniel had accomplished everything he had set out to do and we are all very pleased with the progress made.
Danniel is warm, easy-going and professional, and we would highly recommend him to anyone looking to further their child's knowledge outside of school hours. Thank you for all your help Danniel!
